Just got our first Cuddeback cameras in today. One home camera and 3 remote cameras and plan on using the CuddeLink when we deploy them. I bought Rayovac High Energy D batteries. Going to set them up tomorrow and get the cell plan figured out. Plan on actually deploying them on our farm next week. Also plan on installing the firmware update to them tomorrow. Any of you Cuddeback guys out there have any advice before I start setting them up tomorrow?

If you’re on Facebook there’s a cuddeback users group. It’s loaded with info. Even has tabs to direct you to different topics such as batteries or insect control. I’ve been running 8 j cameras for a couple years but just got a cell home unit a few weeks ago. The biggest problem I see with them is battery life. I ran 6 d-cell packs last year. This year I added the new solar panels to four cameras and dual power banks to two of them. I have two still running on the d-cell packs.

The one problem people are having on 8.0 (I’m not sure if it’s an issue with 8.1) is if they’re running j cams with 4 D-cell packs is accidentally picking 12AA or 6D for their batteries. Then the camera reads the voltage as too low and says dead batteries and will not let you change anything in the settings. It won’t even let you change the battery choice to 4D. Some are just setting their battery choice to 4D no matter what they are running to avoid this.

Ortho home defense sprayed above and below camera but not on it to keep the ants away is a very good idea.

Good to know. I don’t have Facebook but my sister in-law does...I’ll have her check it out tomorrow and maybe use those videos to walk through the process.
Is picking the battery source a part of the initial setup process?

All things habitat forum has a good cuddelink thread. Actually a couple of them on there. Lots of great tips and troubleshooting. One thing about the cameras is there detection window. It isn't a big area. If you place a camera high and have it angled down you will miss alot of deer either near or far. It is far better to have about thigh high and then having it shoot level. Good thing about them is I seldom have false pictures.

Like Sdoyle1 said battery life is an issue. I would only recommend the solar in full sun situations. Dual power banks in any others. Being able to change settings remotely with the new firmware is really cool.

I really like the system and now with the dual powerbanks, I like it a whole lot more since I get long battery life between changes. This is the first year with them but looks like I will get 6 months plus with the dual powerbanks.

It is on 8.0. I haven’t updated to 8.1 yet so I can’t comment on it.

Finally have the cameras deployed. Question for you guys...where do you select how often you want the pictures sent to the phones on the plan?

Also, how do I change settings remotely? I updated to the gen 2 firmware before I deployed the cameras.
