Curious about a rub.

Hey guys, found a rub earlier this year way back on some public about 700 to 800 yards from where i parked next to some nasty stuff and probably 150 yards from a secluded food source. The older rub on the right definately looks legit, the fresher rub almost looks as if someone cut into the tree with a blade. I also found a track that i believe belongs to a heavy buck that is traveling the area. I know we have alot more experienced hunters than me on here. What do yall think?

It does look a lot like when I've seen people marking trails with a machete. But it is pretty low to the ground for that. I don't see a pile of shavings at the bottom like I'd expect for a rub. Is there a chunk laying there? Usually on a rub you have evidence of a back and forth motion and they usually aren't exactly uniform from top to bottom.

There are some shavings on the ground but no chunks. The one on the right looks more like a buck or bucks have visited it over time. Only thing that i can think of is that someone may have tried to make a mock rub i guess. Never heard of someone doing something but i could be wrong.

Looks highly suspect to me. The main thing I see that makes me suspicious is the clean line at the top of the fresh "rub" and the deep nature of it opposed to any superficial scratching alongside the bark.

This is a rub. You can tell cause it looks more shredded than rubbed. Not all will look like this depending on the type of tree. But they should have some shreds of bark hanging on the top and bottom side of the rubScreenshot_20221207-194041_Google.jpg

Suspect.
That’s not a good answer, but I wouldn’t set a tree just for that “sign”.
Tracks are legit lol.

I think it's fake, hoof mark too. I used to do the same thing to my buddys lol. I used to make scrapes too. Had a hoof in my pack and everything. If you look close at the print it's kinda hollow at the top opposite the toe because it was just dried out and not filled.
