What’s up everyone. New to the forum and this year will be my first year hunting with a saddle and I’m loving every minute I get to hang in the yard and practice. One issue I’m having is pack ability with full size line wolfs and my predator pack. My thought process was to cut down my line wolf sticks essentially remove the bottom step. For easy packing
Anyone have photos of there modified sticks or suggestions.. do I need to relocate the versa button and will the sticks still stack like the standard length stick? I’m 6ft 185 early 30s athletic and I’m not worried about not getting enough height I figure with a stretch an aider in bottom stick I should be able to get 15-20ft which is perfect for my hunting locations any tips would be great!

My best tip is this: figure out how high you can comfortably step and relocate the middle step to accommodate that height, test it out and then cut.

Not much LW left but post & bottom steps.

Search and you will find a few guys who have modified the lone wolfs. Beaston is one I can remember.

I’m currently moding mine. I’m cutting mine in the middle and adding cable aiders to the bottom of each one. So essentially it will be like carrying 2 full length sticks weight wise but with the height of 4 full length sticks.
15” stick + 20” cable aider= 35” per stick (x4)

I’ve also have a Swaider I’m contemplating on using as well to get me another 20” step to the cable aider. 55” per stick will get u up the tree quick.

Well here’s what I ended up with. I cut a full length Lone Wolf stick in half. Redrilled the mounting holes for standoffs and versa butttons as needed. I’ve got 15” step to step. Short yet but added a 20” cable aider. So now with 4 mini Lone Wolf sticks I’m getting the same height as 4 full length sticks. I plan to use my Swaider and add another 15-20” per step to get some more height as well.
Overal pretty satisfied with how they turned out.
Thanks to EWO for making some great lightweight double steps and some sweet cable aiders !

Looks great! I will be doing the same thing with APIs when they come in. Not sure if I will like the standoffs, but that can be improved upon later How do they stack? Do you like the cable aiders?

Rakbow. They only stack in pairs. But they are crazy lite. I do like the cable aiders they get you that extra 20” with little weight. I don’t have a digital scale to weigh them but I think they are close to the weight of the shikars I just bought. I’m sure a lil heavier but not much. I will do the amsteel rope mod for them as well. I like the amsteel for my shikars hit me up if u have any questions

I’m bringing this back from the dead, I have the novix sticks which are the same but I’m curious what you guys are using to cut them down? I have an angle grinder, chop saw, and hacksaw, and I can get with my friend who has a metal chop saw, but just curious what worked for you.

What, no sawzall?

Surely, a hand-held reciprocating saw would be the best way to get a nice, clean cut!

It might end up looking like a half moon when you are done, but they will be cut!

Curious on this as well....

Lol I have a sawzall as well…..I spend way to much money on tools…..I’ve cut aluminum attack without issue on my dewalt miter saw, just didn’t know if it would cut the sticks.

I’ve cut numerous sets to 24. Never moved the button. Best tip I can give is always cut from the bottoms d use the cuttoff piece as a drill guide. Saves on measuring and is pretty consistent

Cut one stick with each tool and let us know which was more fun.

You want teeth to cut aluminum. It'll cut much better with band saw at high speed vs. a cut off wheel on a grinder. The cut off wheel wants to "smear" the aluminum.

I had luck moving the versa button to the middle step hole and the new top step to the old versa button hole. Only have to drill 1 hole for the stop bolt on the top step and you end up with a 21" stick.
