Danger for sale! Not Me!

A sheet of lath (like they use in plaster and masonary work) screwed/tacked to the plywood would solve the slippiness.

Thanks for posting that. I had never seen this method before. The seller should try including this information on his Craiglist ad. Once you see it explained, it does make it seem slightly less death-trap-ish.

Dad and the guys in the bow club I grew up in made a stand similar to these. They also designed a climber that was very similar to the Baker stand about 5 years before the baker hit the market. They also were building stackable climbing sticks back around 68 or 69. 5 foot sections of conduit. Before they started building some nice gear they had some stands that were metal folding chairs lag bolted to a tree so you could stand in the seat.

I've seen stuff like that out in the swamp I hunt. My favorite was a chair chained to a cedar tree. The guy was climbing branches, and resting his feet on one.

I think that stand is the same physics as a WE stepp, right? The deeper I've gotten into the saddle game the more I realize these ideas aren't new, just newly promoted. Heck my local Iroquois were probably hanging from football shaped saddles 400 years ago.

That looks familiar....

I posted this in the wrong thread originally but thought I'd put it where I intended to.

I can't throw too many stones. As I've mentioned before, my start hunting predates the modern tree stand. These haven't been on a tree in over 30 years but they're still hanging in my back garage. They served me well but really, looking back it's a wonder I didn't die at some point. :)
