Danger for sale! Not Me!

There is a piece of public land near by the house that I visit maybe 2 or three times through the season, and its easy access, no requirement to take stands out at end of season, so there are hundreds and hundreds of stands on this 4 acre piece, and it blows my mind how many of the stands are based off an aluminum stepladder. Especially considering how inexpensive a purpose built stand from a box store is...

You know back years ago commercial stands really weren't around so we did engineer alot of different stands. I had some homemade ladder stands made from some wood ladders with some 2x4's and some plywood. They did work. My design was better than what that looks like though. LOL.

I still have homemade stands but never anything that bad!!!!

I like to use zip ties and bamboo. If it breaks, it is cheap to fix! Just kidding guys!

There is a guy here that uses old aluminum fire escape ladders to make ladder stand with a plywood platform. Makes it slippery when the mold builds up.

How about these two for sale on craigslist...
If the plywood on those is sound, then those are perfectly fine. They are an old, proven design. The only thing they are missing is a "jumper cord" from the platform to the support rod which insures the stand will never "trap-door".
I have over a dozen of those but mine are made of steel, cat-walk grating. I've spent many, many hundreds of hours in them. Solid.

I’m thinking no hand rail to make it to top of platform, slippery deck, and no idea when the platform deck will drop out or metal support. It will work for a while. What did you do to make the deck not slippery?

Rather what would you do to make it not slippery?

Our version of those.
No current saddle platform has handrails. And with a jumper cord or chain that attaches the platform to the support post, these cannot drop out.
I love my Predator, but these are more secure.
