Dangers of a Ropeman 1

This was the beginning of the end of ropeman usage, and any other ascender usage, for me. Pulled out this from the way back time machine.

I don't believe the Ropeman 1 is made for that small of diameter rope. I think its rated for no less than 10mm diameter rope. That looks like 7 or at the very most 8mm.

I was wrong in my post, the Ropeman 1 is rated for 8.9 to 11mm rope. Its printed right on the side of my Ropeman 1.

Once I get setup, I have a figure 8 tied into the end of my tether I hook into the biner. I also tie a loop knot using all the slack except a few inches and hook that to the biner. And for the heck of it, I have a prusik above the Duck as well. A little redundant but the only way I’ll fall is if the tether breaks.

i have a prussic back up and tie a knot about 6-8 inches from where the ropeman is that way i have some adjustablity
I also have a prussik above my ropeman on my tether with a stopper knot. When climbing SRT I have a short webbing bridge but also clip my amsteel bridge in the biner as backup. At height I switch to my tether but leave my climbing rope and Grigri attached loosely as backup. Lots of redundancy. Stay safe out there. Not a lot of help in the woods!

I do not put a stopper knot on the tag end. I have a loop on the end and I run it between the bridge and attach it into the carabiner/ropeman on the tether.

There is nothing dangerous about being a arborist LOl. But on a serious note, you make one mistake and you could be killed. As a arborist I always have a secondary tie in all the time and that leaks over into my saddle hunting also.

What is your method of secondary tie in?
