Hello all, I am going on my 2nd season saddle hunting but have ground hunted and enjoyed camping for years, anyway I see alot of backpackers recommending a decathlon trek 100 down jacket anyone used one for deer hunting where you are stationary instead of mobile?

Hiker recommendations are good and bad depending on which side of the isle the hiker falls on. You have the brand recognition crowd and the hiker trash crowd. BR crowd tends towards the more something costs the better. The HT crowd tends towards the cheaper while functional is better. You just need to align yourself with the crowd that best suits you.

I guess you could say they’re a lot like the saddle crowd in that respect.

Another thing I have found, hikers and campers don't care about sound. My uncle, avid hiker, bought me a HIGH dollar puffy vest. It would pack down to less than a 3 inch cube, would puff right up to 2xl in half a second and was warm. The down side......if I moved the slightest little bit animals for miles would run. I wear it for work and camping. It will NEVER see the hunting woods.

Google cuben fiber and watch a YT video if it’s noise you’re after, lol

It seems to be very functional and at a 100 not too horrible for a good down jacket, but that was a very good point you had about the sound. I am just working on my layer setup and it would be nice to have a warm and very compressible layer for a pack!

And remember a whisper in the store, sounds like a clap of thunder in the hunting woods. OR at least it feels that way.

I came into this thread wondering how the decathlon was going to help me get down the tree. I mean I've heard of off-season training but this is taking it to another level...
