How do you all drag out your deer while saddle hunting? I always used a climber and had a drag loop and deer drug nice. How do you all drag your deer out? Hitching ropes together, or carry a separate drag setup in your bag? Id like to see photos.

A section of rope and a stick for a doe, grab a buck by the antlers and go. Though as I get older I'm starting to think about a deer cart.

If it’s a short walk, I drag a doe by the feet and a buck by his antlers. If I’m quite a walk in, I use my lineman’s rope and girth hitch a buck at the base of the antlers or a doe by rear legs, set my saddle across my body from shoulder to waist turnt backwards with the bridge shortened and basically use my saddle like a sit drag. I started doing it because of the size hog we would shoot (it’s never easy hauling a 180 to 280 lbs hog anywhere) I figured guys used sit drags to saddle hunt, why couldn’t I use my saddle as a sit drag. It ended up working really well for me so I started doing this any time my walk was more than 3/4 of a mile. Another thing that helps me is if there’s a creek or water source around using it to assist in dragging. Everything weighs less in the water.

I still keep a 5' kids sled in my truck that really works nice but I'm liking the gutless method more all the time. All in one trip, no need to go to the truck for anything, and no mess at home later. No need to haul home what you can't eat and then haul that back to the woods. IMO.

I learned a little trick for doe, where you cut a hole in the skin near the knee join and push the foot from the other leg thru.. creating a “4” out of the leg and allowing you to use it as a handle to drag.. makes a drag super easy. Otherwise I will use a cut down 8” tree limb with paracord to drag a big buck by its antlers..

On meateater I saw clay newcomb use the skin from all four deer legs to make a “X” and use the deer as a back pack. Never tried it but looks cool

I bought one of those fancy 4. Wheel hawk carts on sale last year (I feel like they've gone up in price again though?) And it's a great cart, haven't used it on a deer yet but worked great testing by hauling the kids around. Doe I shot last year probably weighed about the same as the cart lol but I drug her out after forgetting the pins that hold the cart open. Pins and extra pins have been procured.

I keep a plastic toboggan in the truck. I've got a few-3 I use during the winter for firewood and other chores that serve double-duty during deer season. I'll usually drag part of the way to the truck, as long as the ground cover is conducive to it, but when it gets muddy or gnarly I'll leave it, stash my bow and pack in the truck, and come back with the sled for the deer. A Harbor Freight lawnmower ramp slides it right into the bed of my truck. When I first started hunting I picked up one of those HME or whatever deer drag harnesses; it's one of the few purchases from those days that I'm still using. But, this year I'll probably use my Recon in its place.

I bought one of these a few years ago. Works pretty well girth hitched over their neck or antlers.

I use a cart most of the time but I did drag a decent sized doe out with my tether girth hitched around her head and hooked into my bridge after I shortened it up. I wore the saddle backwards and it puts the load on the hips and you can really use your legs to pull. Hook everything up wearing the saddle as normal then just rotate everything around to your back.

Yea by wearing it across the chest, I found it easier to get a little extra leaning leverage but same basic principle

Where do the pins go on the cart? I have the same hawk cart got it “used/ returned” on Amazon for like $90 but it didn’t have any pins.

Drug two buck out with it last year and any weight on the front end and the cart would fold up. I ended up drilling holes through the handle and frame and used pins from a ladder stand to firm it up. Also added extra webbing at handle side to keep the head up.
Hoping to try out all the mods this year.

Yeah it's great with them, next to worthless and folds on itself without...

I just made one w/a pc. of 1/2" PVC and paracord today and used it tonight to drag a doe out of the woods to quarter in the field. Sure works better than a rope cutting into your hands. Thanks for the idea sir.
