DIY LW Seat Platform

Hi All,
Over the last few days I put together my own Platform using my LW seat -- I attempted to follow previous posts on this forum. I bought the materials from eastern woods outdoors.

Long story short, I finished the platform and am having issues with it. When I cam it over it almost always wants to pop up. Obviously, I can reduce tension on the OCB and then cam it over, but then its not tight and wobbles once I stand on it. Im curious if anyone has experience with this DIY project and has some input.

Is the hole for the seat bolt too low? I drilled it at 4'' from the top (9'' platform post). I figured when I cam it over this would make it about in the middle. In reality when I cam it over its just over halfway, closer to 5 - 5 1/2 '' from top. Do you think drilling a new hole and moving the seat platform up will help?

Also how tight do you keep the buckle before camping over. Do you let the seat open up 45 degrees before tension/ more/less (assuming 90 is fully crammed).

Appreciate any advice

Ben

I think it's either the location of where your strap is attached to the platform form or the strap being too high around the tree or both. The strap should be attached on the outside edge of the platform form so it's not giving back slack when cammimg (if that makes sense) and the strap should be around the tree level or slightly lower than the platform. As for tightness, I cam it as tight as I can comfortably then I lift it back up and take up some more slack and cam it even tighter using the platform as leverage. Soft barked trees will add slack after the first cam over which is why I do the second. Works well for me.

I cam it while my weight is on the platform...

Sorry, forget what I said. Thought you were trying to work with a "traditional" seat platform. Looks you are talking about a hand climber seat.

Thanks!

You are correct I’m useing a traditional LW seat.. NOT the hand climber seat like blt348 shows.

maybe my issue was location of the strap. For some reason I thought I wanted the strap higher than the platform (which makes sense why it was pulling up). So your saying you locate the strap about even or even slightly lower the the platform prior to camping over?

OK. Yes, even with the platform. Cam it tight then lift and take up the slack and cam it again. If you aren't using a decent amount of force then your strap isn't tight enough. Using the end of the platform form as a lever helps.

Sorry but I gave a bit of misinformation. Strap can be slightly above, not below.
