DIY Pulk Sled

I made this pulk sled a few years ago. Total cost was <$25. Largest deer I've dragged out was 110 pounds dressed weight. I've pulled about 150 pounds of kids around in the snow, though.

$12 sled from Ollies taped up and ready to drill holes

Holes drilled and rope running the perimeter of the sled and a webbing "net" put in place. Rope is a cheapo $10 8mm cord from Home Depot. Carabiners were freebies from some event. Delrin D-rings are about 20 cents each.

PVC yoke and "handle" added for better maneuverability in the field.

Someone gave me a gift card to bass pro and I used it to buy a jet sled. By far the best purchase I’ve ever made for a piece of equipment. I was going to make one like yours in the beginning. Nice work!!

That's awesome! Do you have details on how you attach it to your belt? 'Biners to your saddle MOLLE? I've been using a toboggan for years and it might be time to upgrade one of them to your style of pulk.

I have a jet sled too. My favorite feature about it is its ability to help you load a deer in your truck. I place the front edge up on my tailgate and lift the back up and push the deer in the truck all by my lonesome.

I haven't actually attached this one to my pack yet but I have carabiners and a y-yoke integrated into the waistbelt and shoulder straps of my backpack. I can attach to the waist band or the shoulder straps pretty easily. Typically though, I have a short walk out (less than a quarter mile) so I just put my hands in the loops at the end of the pvc, or hold the knots there, and drag that way. If you attach the pvc to your waist in an X it keeps the pulk behind you so it doesn't move too far sideways and keeps it moving pretty well.

It's very nice setup. I have very similar for winter snowshoeing and hunting

One thing that I found that the tighter the attachment to the belt the less jerking motion while on the move

I've used a belt attached to my jet sled for pulling. I replaced the jet sled rope with tubular webbing with some bluewater assault line (11 mm i believe) inside it. Works pretty well as a handle and walking with both hands pulling it behind me wasn't bad.

When I used the belt I attached it to the molle loops on the back with a carabiner. It's the lifting belt I use for weighted dips and pullups. I've had it for over ten years now and it has held up well and is actually comfortable when weighted.

When I was in Wisconsin I saw a harness, I believe it was marketed by eagle claw, specifically for pulling a jet sled. It was at an ace hardware for $19. It looked pretty decent.

I have used a waist belt from a day pack that had a removable waist belt.

I agree we need a visual reference, I like the idea of the wife tied up and thrown in there. Tell her to be a good sport and help a brother out. Tag in her ear would be an awesome touch. Bet you’d go viral!

Pictures finally accomplished. I couldn't convince my wife to indulge but my kids were game. I swapped out the webbing for something with a little more coverage.

First picture is my 60 pound 11 year old. Second picture is with my backpack loaded on top... the net is a two layer trunk organizer that is closed off on 3 sides to make a "bag". The last picture is my 100 pounder and 70 pounder together sitting "indian style" and hunched over. Biggest deer I've dragged in this was 110 pounds dressed so 170 pounds is a bit larger but not too much. Good to know I can carry a "big" deer if I need to, someday.

That's a neat trick with the cargo net. I might do something similar for a pack frame. I bet MOLLE pouches would attach to that really easily. Stuff it with stuff sacks full of extra layers or meat bags or whatever.
