well it looks like it only duplicates from my phone. this post and the "test" are from my computer. It looks like Ken1320 had a duplicate too?
I think kenn was messing with me lol

What size channel is that, Ernie?

Still interested in the field and stream stick, or are you going to go with this design?

It was a 1" x 1" square that I cut in half. I ordered a 2" x1/2" channel to try in case it rolls too easy with side load. I am definitely still interested in the field and stream stick. I think the step piece is better on those than on the sky hook

Alright, let me find out how much it will cost to ship. I don't have the cam buckle straps anymore, used them for another project, assuming you don't need them though. Is 20 + actual shipping reasonable?

I'll get a total estimate soon, sorry I've been slow on the replies, picked up some extra hours.

Ok I got a chance to try this out. It is not quite right. At the very least I need to extend the channel further below the step. It rolls a little from side to side but it's tolerable. Going to try two more renditions. One longer and one longer and wider. I'll post results next week

Hey Red. Is there any way you could post a video of your steps in use?

I have not got a chance to use them other than trying them out on a tree in the dark, but I will post something up once I get to try them further.

Well I got a chance to get back in the shop this morning. I made a few adjustments. I used thinner shims and made the shims longer to accomodate 1" webbing without as much slop. When I made the shims thinner, it meant i had to file off a little bit of the teeth that are on the original step. I made the channel 3" longer on the bottom to prevent it from rolling top to bottom. When i tried it out this weekend, the bottom dug into the tree and needed more support. I left the bottom really long with the intention of trying it out and then trim it down some. If it still holds, I will trim some more until i find the perfect combination. More to follow on that. I really hope that the smooth channel works as well as the teeth did for gripping. Cutting all those teeth took some time. I also have some 2" wide channel on order to help with rolling from side to side.

This worked much better. Without the teeth, the step sides down a little bit until it tightens. On the pine I tried, it looked like the top was digging in under the tension of the strap. But on the hackberry which is much harder, it wasn't as noticeable. I am going to try and adjust the position down the channel a little and see what happens. I am also really curious to see what happens with the wider channel.

I got a chance to hunt with these steps tonight. They worked great. While I was setting them up I noticed that they wanted to roll over a little bit but once I got them tightened down with the boat buckle there was no movement or chance of them rolling over. The only minor thing i encountered was at one point the step stuck to the mud in my boot and pulled and made a click when it dropped back down. That happened only once and it could be solved with a piece of stealth strip on the inside.

Did u stand on them for hours? They are my favorite step for climbing, but seem a bit narrow to stand on for any length of time.

I stood on them for 2 hours. I am sure I could stand on them all day because I am used to standing on the narrow screw in steps all day, but for anyone who has issues with narrow steps that would probably still be a problem.

Looks like you made lemonade out of left over lemons, great job. Now ill have to take my helium scraps and build some. This site never lacks inspiration for new projects.

Looks good Red! I might have to make a set. I tried hunting with just gaffs the other night and a platform would have been VERY welcome.

The idea first came to me when Dave mentioned cutting down his sticks. I think I'm going to like the heliums as mini sticks better so I'm probably going to make some more of these. The ones that were shorter worked just as good as the first one I made and are lighter, so I'll cut that one down probably.

I like these I'm new to the site but ended up doing some climbing paws out of 3"pvc. But I'm going to try this one next.

I DIY'd some PVC Climb Paws as well. They work well enough, but they're SO BULKY! Not bad for a pre-set spot.

Again, must be weight issue, but the ones I made squeaked and creaked when I moved on them.
