I am wanting to throw together a DIY Tether instead of purchasing one since have a collection of load rated carabiners and prusik cordage to utilize. Can anyone make recommendations as to what rope I should purchase? Thank y’all!!

Yah, no need to overthink it. Just about any rope, that is rated, will do. I like Sterling HTP 9mm for a lighter, less bulky, decent price option.

Read through a lot of the posts and looks like people go with figure 8 for the knot. Is there a reason to go that route over overhand on a bight?

Bluewater assault line
Sterling superstatic 2
Sterling HTP

Samson predator

As far as a knot, figure 8 is probably the best, it maintains a little more strength in the rope although it does take more line to tie it and is more bulky

I tie an overhand on a bight as well for webbing, or rope.
