I see this mentioned here and there. A Spare or back up Bow. I never really heard of it until I came on here. Just curious how many people actually do.

I have always kept my previous bow to use in case of emergency. This year I purchased a second bow of the same model I'm currently shooting. I've outfitted it the same and even though its a year newer (2015 vs the 2014 original) I can't tell the difference between the setups. If something goes wrong the transition should be seamless.

The biggest reason I did this was a couple of years ago a buddy of mine made the trip back to Michigan from NC where he now resides to bowhunt the rut. On the second day he was here he tripped on an unseen stump in a clear cut, fell on his bow and broke the upper limb. Since he is left handed the rest of us didn't even have a bow available to loan him. I'm too die hard of a hunter to lose even part of a season to a broken bow. :) Worth the extra investment to me.

I do not...but have thought about it. I do have a spare release, sight, and rest.
I don’t plan on buying a new bow anytime soon but if I did I’d likely hang on to my old one

I have a Scorpyd crossbow I bought for my son to and wife to use. But I can’t use it on state lands. But I hunt private as well but I use my vertical bow. It’s also a back up for out of state hunts where legal in case someone in the group has a mishap with their bow.

I dont but i wish i had one. My bow has been at the shop for a week now and i miss it,more than i thought i would. I am getting some issues straightened out so it will be 100% for bow season. I am with @boyne bowhunter that i am too obsessed with bow season to miss a day.
When i upgrade i will keep this bow as back up,but that wont be for several years. My old entry level bear cruzer i shot before is useless with a spent string and worn whisker biscuit. That one is not worth putting money into,so hopefully one bow will be enough for seasons to come.

If my last bow hadn’t had limbs damaged when the string popped I would of kept it as a spare. Now it’ll probably be another 8-10 years until I buy another so I doubt I’ll have a backup unless it’s a deal too good to pass up.

I have a bow and a crossbow. Both legal for me to use for archery season. Not a backup but another option.

I shoot a 60#, 30” SwitchbackXT and have a 70#, 30” SwitchbackXT as a backup.

ETA: and a 70#, 30” Proline New Wave that I’ll pull out every now and then to clobber a deer with when I get to feeling all nostalgic....big ol’ heavy ass bow that’s the smoothest thing I’ve ever shot.

I had my vintage Mathew Q2 had a limb delaminated last September and had to pick up a Bear Pledge from a pawn shop to save my season now it’s my back up to a VXR 28

I am shooting a VXR this ear and I pray to God that nothing fails. However, I kept my switchback for an emergency. Secretly I just couldn’t sell it. It’s a stellar bow and shoots really really good.

Nope. Thought about picking up a cheap crossbow though. Haven't seen any new bows that make me want to upgrade from my Charger. If I got another bow I would keep it.

Would love to find a switchback! They are pricey bow for there age but legends

I shoot my recurve all summer and hunt with it a few times per year. Compound is still my main weapon for the majority of the season. Never thought of it as a backup but it would work in a pinch.

I have. VXR this season. Kept my triax from 3 years ago. Bought a tx5 last season. Opening day of last year I broke my pins on my tx5 coming out of the woods. Used my triax from about a month while waiting on my site to come back. I also have a monster 6 that I just liked way too much to ever sell.
