Does anyone use OnX app?

i can't seem to bring up my past tracks any ideas??? had them before but they don't show now. on onX

Try opening it up on the desktop. Sometimes I have that problem when I drop pins on the computer or my phone they don’t pull up till I log out then login

been using ONX. However just recently switched to Huntwise to try there 7 day free pro trial and am not that impressed anyone else mess with Huntwise?

OnX has been extremely slow loading for me lately. To the point it’s almost unusable. Same way on mobile and PC version. I’m reaching my waypoint max limit so wondering if that may be why. Pretty disappointing if it cannot handle that.

I’m in the trial. Was trying it and HuntStand. I kinda like both but leaning towards OnX. I’ll probably only be hunting my home state for awhile. Anyone year have it for multiple states?

I’ve been using onx for multiple years. Just started trialing Gaia this year (new hunter I am mentoring is using it).

One use case is that I set tracking on my walk out so I can follow the track in reverse when I end my hunt. Pretty standard.

Last Saturday after packing up, I got a black screen with onx. Reboot the iPhone, still no joy. The Gaia worked like a charm.

I had to uninstall and reinstall onx to get it to work again. And I lost my offline maps doing so. But do I really want to risk having to do that when it is dark and I need to find my way back to my truck? Saturday was a very disappointing experience with onx for me.

Thank goodness Gaia was working.

I have both and run both while hunting. I find Gaia’s user interface not as sleek as onx. Also, onx is easier to see property boundaries. That said, gaia has been rock solid for me. I am really impressed with Gaia. and Gaia never crapped the bed on me while dark and counting on it to navigate out of a swamp at dark.

For me, I am going to lean heavily on Gaia and just use onx for property boundaries.

Whatever one is using, I think it prudent to carry a physical compass and be aware of the general direction one needs to go to get back to the vehicle.

I use OnX but I also use Gaia. The good thing about Gaia is for $20 a year you get all 50 states public lands and private. When you are going off grid with no service it is easier as well. You hit one button drag the screen out hit save put it in airplane mode and go. I like both but I think I find myself using Gaia more. Gaia also locks onto the gps signal quicker

I’m the opposite I cannot see those little dots that OnX uses. I think Gaia property boundaries are more clear. Especially the public lands.

I didn’t know I could use Gaia for that. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks!

In any case, these are way better than a garmin for me. Only have to make sure there is enough juice and the phone is waterproof. I accidentally swamped my hip waders and got my phone submerged a few years back. Killed the phone. Good thing I had a compass.

I really need to spend more time learning all the features of these two apps. I do use offline maps in onx and Gaia, waypoints and tracks, and property ownership in onx, but that’s about it.

I am glad they both exist. Competition is good for us. Onx finally has ability to take pictures. No doubt because Gaia has already offered that.

Also, onx has great marketing powers. Anyone who watches THP or other hunter type shows / podcasts always sees onx. Gaia is lacking in that regard.

One final note (for now), I would like to have the ability to add a display of a circle radius (distance I input) to show around my current location. I sometimes hunt close to buildings and I have to be aware of safety zones. Now, I just put up a line and check the distance, but it would be great to have a 50 yard or 150 yard circle displaying on my screen. To my knowledge, neither apps do that.
