Doyle's hoist failure, need alternative

So I went hunting on Wednesday and just as I'm about to get on my platform the nylon strap on my Doyle's gear hoist snapped.

It looked like it got caught up on a leaning tree branch or something but nonetheless I didn't expect it to snap. It screwed everything up and I had to one stick down the tree, jerry rig the remaining strap to my harness and get back up.

Now I'm looking for alternative that will not fail on me. Currently I'm looking at 4mm route because of this video:


But if y'all have any recommendations on what works for you then let me know. Anything that's compact and easy is what I'm thinking

if you lost confidence in the Doyle’s it’s pretty hard to beat the third hand archery Kentucky bow rope or the lone wolf silent tote.
 
Where did the Doyle's fail specifically? At the end piece for the loop or up the webbing in a random spot. Just looking for potential weak spots.
 
@enkriss thanks for those suggestions!

@Bwhana it snapped right at the opening of the hoist where the strap comes out. So it was definitely due to tension placed on the strap but I didn't feel like it was under so much pressure that it should have snapped. It just really sucked because this was new spot and I don't know how much the going down and coming up disturbed the deer in the area

Was the actual strap severed or did the stitching give way? The only thing I don’t like about the Doyle’s strap version is the inadequate stitching at the end of the strap. I think I may take it out and just tie a loop without the stitching.
 
The actual strap itself severed. Like literally just snapped under tension.

I know what you mean about the stitching at the end of the strap, i took that out and tied a knot like you're saying. Ultimately though it was the strap that failed and snapped
 
I’ve been climbing with mine untiI felt the strap get tight. Well this morning the strap pulled out the end and I had to climb back down and get my rifle. I’ve emailed Doyle’s and am sure they will make it right. @Erniepower had something similar happen with th his.

For whatever it's worth, I emailed them and got no response. Kind of disappointed in that, but I liked my hoist so much, I'll probably just buy another

I'm not crazy about the weight pulling on my saddle

I'm a newbie so I went with Doyles's hoist to shorten the learning curve as much as possible. But after using it and having it fail, looking to lighten the load and use something else that is less of a burden and won't fail

I use the rope version, I had a strap type hoist and it burned my hands. The rope might be a better choice.
 
Not sure which version you had fail but I absolutely love my retractable gear hoist by Doyle
 
I had the flat nylon strap style.

I really liked it a lot and have commented positively about it here on the forum but after having the strap snap on me it in a hunting situation, it definitely made me lose confidence in it.

I know a lot of folks here use something different than a Doyle's hoist so I figure I have nothing to lose giving an alternative a try

The one I use is the retractable gear hoist. Idk if it’s stronger than a strap or not, but it’s been working for me. No issues yet. It’s advertises 30’ of line.
 
This is exactly why I went with the rope style and will be switching the cord to 2mil dyneema. Yikes

I started with para cord many years ago but when trying to pull up a heavy pack, well it can be trying due to the small diameter of the cord. Switched to the Hawk pull cord and have liked and has worked well for years now. I DIY'd a grapple hook and just fish bow and pack up as needed. As for storage, just figure 8 the rope around fingers and it will not get tangled. No need for the heavy hoists on the market.

I had the same thing happen to my Doyle’s hoist strap and was able to speak to them by phone (this was last year). I mailed it to them and they fixed it and sent it back to me.
 
That's good to know and great that they were able to fix that for you!

@SG843 that's a good tip, that hawk cord does look nice
