Good evening saddle savy folks!
Been seeing a lot of discussion regarding saddle sag. It has even led to one of our products doing fairly well.
One common denominator is gear density (coined it...it's mine). Most of the folks that I have talked to that have the problem are carrying 4 liters of water, a microwave, 68ft of rope and rocks.
Being the smart salesman and self saboteur that I am, I suggest they put sumadat stuff in a pack and not carry it on a belt. Ever watch Cops? Those boys can't keep a 4" leather hard fastened utility belt up when loaded.

My question is, when did the dump pouch packin' start ( for you 5+ year saddle ninjas). Is it utilitarian, or just cool? I'm a naked saddle guy, preferring everything in my vest pockets.

My 4inch leather utility belt stays up just fine. It’s called no donuts and belt keepers. But I don’t use the dump pouches either on a saddle.

I keep all my SRT and climbing stuff, even my gear hanger, milkweed and saddle, in a large homemade pouch. It packs attached to my platform and connects to my saddle via 2 QR 3/4" buckle's similar to the TX5 pouches. At the tree I remove saddle, climb, hang gear strap and the pouch houses my excess rappel rope and SRT stuff. It doesn't sag on me because I added a leg strap, actually 2, that holds it nicely and prevents it from flopping around. I don't like using my pockets for anything other than keeping my hands warm and I don't have to worry about any sagging...even if I wear my saddle while walking I can take the pouch off and put it in my pack. The only permanent accessory is my linesman belt pouch which is extremely light.

I’ve never put anything on mine. I have a small backpack for my junk. The ol sitdrag never had mole loops!

I'm a naked saddle hunter........ I take that back, all I have on mine is my doyles attached to the back. No sag at all and I wear mine in and out.

AGREED, I have never understood the minimalist, leave everything in the truck. "IF" I get a deer I have to make more trips to the truck and back to the dead deer. Why not carry a little extra weight in a PACK and be done with it. Just carry an appropriate sized back pack.

Maybe I'm the minority here. I have a dump pouch on each side. On my left is my rappel set up. On my right is my tree tether, small rope hangers for pack and bow, and headlamp. I cinch my waist belt and leg straps down and don't have any issues. Cruzr XC saddle.

I’m a two EWO dump sack guy. LB on the left, tether on the right, and when the tether is deployed I use the right for my phone and grunt tube. Cinch up the waist belt tight and there’s no sag issue.

I’ll take up squirrel hunting before I start daisy-chaining my ropes.

I remember very few people using dump pouches when I first started. Mainly because they didn't attach to the Evo, the old trophy lines, sit-drags, or fleece saddles very well.

After the Kestrel came out I remember a thread where somebody added a dump pouch from Amazon, then there was a thread where people were adding military surplus dump pouches. That's how I remember it but, my memory sucks, there was obviously precedent for AeroHunter to put Molly loops on the kestrel.

I tried them all but never liked having anything on my saddle. I currently have an EWO fleece dump pouch on each side of the waist belt of my pack. They're handy when I climb but come off when I hang my pack up.

Now, if only I had a molle panel to replace the bag on my Popup, @always89y....... ;)

Ya’ll reeeealy need to stop calling yourselves naked saddle hunters, that’s a mental image I really don’t want. My decent into madness started with rappelling and 2TC. It wasn’t intentional but like many things once mission creep set in it was hard to stop. I will say the only thing I have attached to my saddle is my rappel stuff and 2TC stuff. I keep it there because I know myself and I’ll forget it, so I keep my load out repeatable and consistent so that I don’t. In my pack I used to carry 4 liters of water, the microwave, 68 feet of rope, rocks AND a processing sink, bucket and extra timber pimp but that got old. I’ve since gotten rid of that nonsense and switched to a fanny pack. I agree with @GCTerpfan, that’s about when I recall it starting.

For me, dump pouches on my saddle started with the Trophyline Ambush saddle I bought about 14 years ago. Have always used dump pouches since then to store LB, tether, bow hooks, ROS, etc. Never had problems with my saddle staying up and they don’t bother me walking in. To each his own.

Let me clarify. It is like some people are afraid of a couple pounds on their backs. I have 4 pouches on my saddle with a lineman's stored on the left front, then small misc. Items thought the other 3. I just don't want them clanging and want them accessible instead of digging in my pack. Running an earlier model TX5, no sag, I just want everything else in my pack. The only time I really use the leg loops is on the hang to keep the saddle under my butt and not creeping up my back.

I have always had them on my battle belt but nothing on my sitdrag.
I put them on my kestrel to hold my tether and
Lineman. Everything else in the backpack

I moved everything to a battle belt with suspenders. No sag and if hunt from the ground I just grab the battle belt. Allows me to swap out my saddle without moving any gear, and doesn’t interfere if I want to throw on a backpack for an extended hunt.

Agree it screams of tacticool form over function. I pack it in and biner it to my saddle to climb. Started with a SYS and that pos fell apart so replaced it with a latitude last week, major upgrade. I keep ropes in mine. 2x tether/LB, 20 ft paracord, 2nd treestand strap, and CAYG aider. Sometimes a Tethrd microwave if I'm feeling frisky.

Naked saddle for me (just for you @Exhumis)
I wear my saddle in usually and take it off and stuff it in my pack in the way out. Hate pouches hanging all over the place.

I have never been one to put much on my saddle But lately i have been running a roll pouch to play with rappelling I like how nice and snug it is on the saddle No flopping around plan on using one on the other side and seeing how that goes I do not take a lot of stuff to the tree no way and these will be fine for the essential stuff

my saddle and tether are a1 peice system and even with a linemens it dosnt need any pouches. and is too light weight to sag.its not 2 pounds soaking wet.thats the advantage of diy.i hunt with a fanny pack.keep my knife in it.but i dont let either system get inthe way of each other.keep them seperate and use a sling bag for climbing steps when needed .works great together.for organization.i pu t my pants on then put my saddle on and grab my fanny pack.im probably the only one who whears his saddle in the car and with the linemens and teather.they dont even get in the way of the seatbelt.
