Early season success!

It is not what I expected when I got orders here. I spent my last 3 in the navy at NRMD. Got a job and stayed despite being a west coast kid. The only thing that sucks here is the taxes. Lots of hunting pressure and limited land, too.

I got lucky, first civilian I met was a Game Warden (CO in CT, lol). He got me a couple of really nice private spots to hunt, but I also hunted a good bit of public. Trout, bass, deer, geese, grouse.....loved it.

The fishing is a big part of why I stayed out here. The outdoors and rural area makes the rest tolerable. Plus, it’s a good place to raise kids.

Helluva rockfish! If you fish freshwater there’s a pond on WMA (Beaverdam WMA maybe? Or Beaverdam pond) that’s custom made for your kayak. I paddled it with a small John boat. It has a man made dam with a portion cut out of it for the beavers to do their work (I know.....lol) and that thing was slam full of bass. Easily catch 200 a day, but you better take a picture of anything over 12” and frame it because you won’t do it often, lol. If you find it there’s also some good deer hunting on the opposite side of the water from where you park.

Might be talking about beaver brook WMA? If so, I live about 3 minutes from there. Took my first doe there. That place gets a lot of out of state attention because of how close it is to route 6.

I would have to see it to know for sure. Have you ever hunting Spignesi WMA? It used to be called Pudding Hill. Jimmy was a friend of mine. He was another CO that was shot and killed there a few years after I got out and they renamed it after him. Sad damn day.

You live just down the road from Dan Dan the Conversation man! Lol, that’s my friend I was talking about.

I haven’t hunted there, but I have fished there and scouted it. Nice area.
I’ve heard that story. It really shows the dangers the wardens have to deal with.
