Eastern Woods Outdoors Q&A

How are folks deciding on webbing vs amsteel aiders? What matters to you when you make the selection? What made the decision for you?

One, two, and three step aiders. What makes you go with one over the other? I never have seriously used more than a single step aider.

Here’s my two cents as I’ve tried every combo of the above:
Webbing vs amsteel. I initially went with webbing and tried just webbing, then webbing with reinforced steps, then webbing with hose for a step. I started with webbing to get the feel for climbing and at 6’2” and 230lbs while I’m not huge I’m also not the size of @Red Beard and wanted the extra purchase under my size 14 boots. I tried 1, 2 and 3 step aiders. 1 steps didn’t get me the height I wanted, two was the sweet spot and 3 was a pain in the a$$ to bundle as I had them secured to my climbing sticks. They got snagged on everything and were a pain to manage once I got down out of the tree. I also tried a moveable three step aider and that worked pretty good as long as you don’t drop it(ask me how I know). I wanted to try amsteel cuz all the cool kids were doing it. Again I tried 1, 2 and 3 step. One didn’t get me the height I wanted. Two was good, three was better for me. Three with three helium’s gets me at least 22 feet. I like the amsteel guy ones cuz they have tubing which keeps the step open. I also like the amsteel as it folds up very small and with just a couple nite eyz I can keep them tucked into the helium’s and they don’t snag or anything.
