Ebikes. Are they worth it?

build your own to save some $

Its been years but mine is still running strong and cost 8-900 i think

I have a rad Rover 5. Fat tire and E bike is a great hunting tool. Three seasons on mine. Very happy. Most places allow a class 2 ebike anywhere a peddle bike is allowed. A class 2 bike is limited to 750 watts at the hub.

yeah mines 750. doubt the guys with slightly larger motors have to worry about the DNR checking watts.

Bike trailers however....i started using a rambo trailer this year and its been awesome

I've researched the last year non stop on ebikes. Was going to go that route this year, but imo cheap ebikes aren't worth it and the one I want I still need some saving up to do and went a cheaper route with a standard mtn bike.
First you gotta figure out what you can spend, and how much motor you need. If you're hunting flatland and standard bike works fine. Some slight rolling hills and hub drive works great.
I hunt steep Mtns so a mid drive will be my only option.
I would stay away from all the "hunting" bike brands. Rambo, Quietkat and Bakcou are all insanely overpriced bikes with low to mid range components marked up crazy high. They don't innovate or engineer anything. They go to the Chinese market, pick the parts they need, cobble it together, slap their name on it and mark it up. They boast of their 160 NM torque engine, but never mention how that engine mutilates standard bike drivetrains.
Trek, Yeti, Giant etc these companies have been making bikes 30+ years. They engineer, design, and patent bikes so they know their stuff. There is a reason none of those companies make a super powerful motor over 80-90 NM of torque. They know any higher than that and drivetrain wear is beyond ridiculous. I'm talking cassettes frequently ruined and destroyed in less than a couple hundred miles. Excessive chain stretch, broken chains, frequently broken derailers are all that comes with a super powerful engine.
The only company that has innovated and engineered there way out of it is Biktrix. They created a new model called the XD that uses a motorcycle chain connected to a beefy rear sprocket along with a 2300 Watt motor. It's more powerful than any bafang motor. And the drivetrain should last a long, long time. It could tackle any hill along with heavy cargo with ease. And it's cheaper than many of the hunting bikes
So you saying those companies bikes are no good. Let me tell you I got a Bakcou mule directly from Bakcou with everything I needed on for a very good price plus I could hunt without because of an injury I received at work in 2016. My bike is a beast and so is my friends Rambo Rebel. So don't bad mouth something you don't use. Bakcou and there costumer service is the best out there.

I didn't say they were good. I said theyre insanely overpriced which they absolutely are. Biktrix and M2S offer extremely similarly spec'ed bikes for thousands less.

Same here. I added a Leeds kit to one of my Trek mountain bikes 4 years ago and been great for what I need. Think I paid around $700 for the kit. I’m amazed what some are paying for some of those high dollar dedicated to hunting e-bikes. Wasn’t too long ago you could buy a nice 4-wheeler for what some of those bikes cost now.:anguished:

It’s not surprising. $500+ lock ons. $300 for a single stick. $500 for a two pieces of clothing. $400 for a hunting man purse with no hip belt.

folks take a lot of pride in telling you how much they paid for stuff. Why would these gear companies deprive them of that opportunity?

Like I said the deal they gave me I couldn't pass up. I looked at the Biktrix and the M2S and compaired to the mule and all the features they didn't compare. Also one of my biggest things was if I ran into any problems who had the best service. Bakcou beat out every other one and I did a lot of research. This is my second ebike my first was a Radrover that I upgraded the controller to give it more power. There is nothing wrong with this bike but it definitely doesn't compare to my Mule Ultra Mid-drive.

And you guys haven't even started into the world of e mountain bikes, wait till you start pricing serious eMTB's :D
