Entire setup...5.25 lbs

I guess I will have to experiment with this as well as a million other things, but it would be nice to save the $$ and not have to buy a platform..
you can always add more bolts as well, I use to run 5 screw in steps, now I find I can make all shots on 4 comfortable on the trees I"m hunting. I"m also mostle a sitter and like to have one foot on either side of the tree mostly, even when leaning.

hahaha I dont even know what saddle I like best, been trying many of them! So, I def havent gotten that far either as deciding platform vs step vs pegs etc etc lol.... Total Nube, but I have used bolts and pegs a long time getting into tree stands lol
So start with what you have already! If it suits you maybe you can cut off the SHEMS.

Will def try this

helps with shipping purposes, and they did a MUCH better job and anyone else could do. IT's pultruded so easy to chip and split.

I'm trying to read the entire thread but I haven't come upon any thing talking about how much someone weighs that is using them. Anyone 215ish hammering some weight down on these dudes?

Really interested just don't want that big boy weight to crack them! lol

DO a search on the site itself for "carbon bolts" they are use at your own risk, and a bunch of shear strength calcualtions have been done...but personally I would go grade 8 if I were you...

Early in the post it is stated many times, these many not be for heavier people. I would be cautious... granted I’ve never used, own, or tried these lol... just going off what others post. As with anything DIY mods and stuff it’s use at your own risk.

Of course as soon as I sent this and did another search I found all the info I needed LOL. Yeah I'm going to stick to the grade 8 bolts just to stay safe. I'm sure I could get away with it but the risk/reward just isn't there for me.

Sweet ass setup tho, very jealous!

Alright... I’m pretty sure a lot of guys have already covered this, because I didn’t read the last 20-30 responses within the last 4 hours on this brand new thread (few year old).If I repeat something, just skip it.

After 4 seasons with an EZ-Kut hand drill....
I would pick up a Treehopper mini hand drill REGARDLESS of wether or not I thought I would preset with a drill. I can not tell you how many times I have set up places I didn’t drag a drill to because I didn’t know if it would be worth setting up or not before. It sounds simple to keep the drill in your pack, but the weight adds up and you WILL justify leaving it behind.

I think the EZ-Kut power drill bit is a bit cheaper, so if price is a concern, I would go EZ-Kut for the power drill bit. Treehopper definitely makes a better product, so if you can spare the coin, go Treehopper for both the hand drill AND the power drill bit.

They're about the most thoroughly analyzed climbing method out there at this point - and I'm still on the fence with them.

I used them exclusively last season and STILL CAN’T bring myself to recommend them for others. The overkill safety factor just isn’t there. I am a small guy, so it hasn’t been an issue, but a moderate-large sized guy definitely shouldn’t use them.

In fact, I have had some issues with my muddy boot slipping off the end of the carbon rods (even though they are rubber shrink wrapped). I am considering biting the bullet on a set of titanium bolts instead so I have a hex/Allen head to provide grip against a sideways foot slip. Y

Yeah - my fence-sitting (rather than run-away) is more from comfort with assuming they'll fail, and always having a robust backup in place. In other words - I'm comfortable running a much reduced safety margin, but conditional on extreme attention to backup.

I'm a fat guy and use them. Havent had a problem but it is definitely use at your own risk. Love them bolts

I don't really think the failures that have occurred are necessarily "fat guy vs skinny guy", and honestly I bet far more slips than breaks have occurred.

I used them all last year as well, no issues. Probably was 175 at the time. Have put on some weight since then aand not a ton of time to hunt far out this year so im on grade 8 and sold them. I WILL be buying more in the next couple years.

Couple kids will do that to you lol

Out of curiosity, how far does the bit drill into the tree? I assume around 3 inches leaving you 3 inches for your foot to sit seeing as the "bolts" are 6 inches long.
