My climber was definitely lighter than any stick/stand setup i looked at when I bought it. And the way I carried it it packed as well or better than them.

I wonder sometimes how much advantage the saddle has really been for me, and how many more deer I could have killed if I had kept my effort solely on hunting and not gotten distracted looking for the better mousetrap.

Focus more time and effort on scouting and learning everything possible about deer and actual hunting vs gear?

I’m with you! Young and unfortunately have a jacked up neck and saddle allows me to hunt more with less literally pain in the neck
 
I bearhug climbed with Loggys for decades so simple and light, I tried to make it climb with the saddle but I just can't seem to get it to work well. I would like to see an aluminum cast platform with a folding seat that you could sit and climb with a saddle.
 
Loc on Explorer was a climbing stand that came in at 11#.
I climb with a rope know so if I take a stand it’s a **** Idol windwalker,came with the pack.

That's pretty much how I feel with the exception of extreme cold and rain when I still use my climber because climbing is a lot easier and safer imo. Ranking climbing methods in terms of ease and safety I would put it just behind rope climbing and way safer than sticks and bolts.

Also thinking a few decades into the future by then I think I'll be ready for more of an old man solution.

Not an either/or proposition by any means, it just makes a lot of sense to climb with your platform. Unless you are a ROS person, in that case, you are just made different and we'll never agree.
 
I use a Lone Wolf hand climber with a Dryad Drey saddle. The Drey is a harness with a hammock that deploys at height. I sit in the hand climber until I get uncomfortable and then I deploy the hammock and face the other way. You can also climb around branches using this method

I would buy one for sure. I snapped my lone Wolf hand climber with barely 20 climbs at 160lbs.
 
That sucks @Wirrex , I'm on season #3 with my original modded LWHC at 207 lbs body weight and my pack/bow that is on my back up and down the tree. I must have the heavy duty edition :laughing:.....In other news LWCG is/will release a mini climber at some point. I was talking to Andre a few months ago and what I did with the HC came up ( of course) and he said a climber is coming. Honestly that is all I know. Makes sense though, that would be next.
 
I'm confused. What more can you guys want then using the LWHC top as a climber/platform???

So those of you who went back to a stand, is it because of:

climbing style
comfort while sitting
standing surface
or others?

I think what folks are saying here is they’d like a micro climbing stand.

But, strictly speaking, the LWHC seat as a climbing platform isn’t perfect imo.

Not straying too far from the design:
-I’d prefer to have a machined platform that is designed to manage rated loads without breakage.
-I’d prefer not to have a raised cross member on the standing surface. (Flat, or a nice slant may be the ticket)
-A support between cable sleeves might increase durability of the arms
-A steeper sloped arm ramp would be better for climbing...something adjustable better yet.
-More robust traction cables
-Cam post or ocb/tree strap anchors for securing

For those so inclined...a hand bar climbing aid that converts to a knee rest would be a great option.

Again, not straying much from the design.

I agree with every word of this except the cam post part. I use my LWHC and never secure it to the tree at hunting height. I like being able to make micro moves with it based on the wind, sun, deer movement and comfort. If you lock the base to the tree, you are most likely just going to leave it there the whole hunt. Obviously, you lose the lateral stability by not securing it to the tree, but it has never cost me a deer.

That's awesome, I had emailed LWCG somewhere around the introduction of their 1.0 about wishing they would make a lightweight climber. I'm sure I was one of many.
 
So both LWCG and Beast Gear are looking into a climber, can't wait for this.

Lwhc Improvements:

Number one would be reliability.
Number two would be making the belt not so snaggy.
Number three would be longer and skinnier shape.
Number four would be adjustable arms for wider and skinnier trees as well as belt angle.
