I use one instead of a figure 8. It lets me tightly fasten a quick link to the very end of my rope so I can girth hitch with it instead of messing with pulling my whole rope though.

Aww, I see. So with a sewn eye and feeding the rope through this would not apply in that instance. The way he uses some of the lingo it makes me wonder if he has a good grasp on what is really important when it comes to safety. I am not a light fella and have used Oplux for lots of hunts and rappels with no concerns at all. I cannot imagine it just snapping unless he had lots of slack and fell, even then it seems unlikely, or something had damaged the rope in a very significant way.
