Facebook Fall Part 2

I use one instead of a figure 8. It lets me tightly fasten a quick link to the very end of my rope so I can girth hitch with it instead of messing with pulling my whole rope though.

Aww, I see. So with a sewn eye and feeding the rope through this would not apply in that instance. The way he uses some of the lingo it makes me wonder if he has a good grasp on what is really important when it comes to safety. I am not a light fella and have used Oplux for lots of hunts and rappels with no concerns at all. I cannot imagine it just snapping unless he had lots of slack and fell, even then it seems unlikely, or something had damaged the rope in a very significant way.

That's one issue with saddle hunting, if your tether goes, you are pretty well f*****. Unless your fast enough to grab onto something. Fault of his own or not, hopefully he makes a full recovery. Makes you wonder about how many more falls occur that aren't posted on social media.

Did we ever get more info or a resolution on this?

If it were real the lawyers would have nuked this website already. Seems to me, totally personal opinion, it was some kind of sick joke.

Honestly the whole thing chipped away at my trust in equipment just a bit. I'm big on personal responsibilty. If I'm ten toes up because I goofed somehow that seems more tolerable to me than if I die because some tard had a bad day the day he made my equipment. I guess I shouldn't care either way and the screwed up system we live in it's prob better for my family if someone else screwed up.

I highly doubt the rope snapped. I think it was something like a friction hitch with one less wrap than it should of had and the tether not having a proper stopper knot in the tag end.

Am I the only one that thinks it is odd he calls his tether 'tethrd' repeatedly? Smells fishy... like trying to get google to pick up on that term when someones searching for saddle info.

I'll go put on my tin foil hat now. I've added a few layers to it this year.

i dunno, if he has broken hands for real could be an autocorrect thing... also they don't use/sell oplux. but yes, it is weird.

I noticed that too and thought it was telling in a subtle way. Who mistakenly types tethrd for tether each time.

If you read his post and update there were many spelling errors. That tells me that it was not an autocorrect thing because it would have fixed those errors.

If I got an email with that many typos, I'd assume it was a scam email from another country. I hope we are right that this isn't legit because it means someone wasn't hurt and that oplux (and rope in general) is safe. If I'm wrong, then I'm sorry about that.

That is kind of how I felt too. I would expect an autocrorrect program to correct tethrd to tether but not the other way around, although the autocorrects are self learning so it is possible.

I wish it was just transparent and easy to understand so we could immediately learn from it as a community and anyone with that risk could take corrective action with their setup. The information could very possibly save someones life.

Tethrd has gotten so big that Apple and Droid IOS are working directly with Tethrd now and auto corrects to their brand name. Tethrd was also officially added to the dictionary this year with a word of the year award.

It won't auto correct tethrd to tether of you got annoyed with correcting Tethrd to tether and added it to your phones/computer dictionary

Wait... Are you guys suggesting something posted on line is not real????? :screamcat:

That's why he's a visual storyteller, I guess?

But in all seriousness, I hope the dude is ok. This is also why I like 10mm as my main line. I know the new fancy 8mm lines are tested and rated accordingly, but I just can't do it.

I often look at my 8mm prusik and wonder if THAT will hold me. I certainly don't want to go smaller. I know it packs up small. I know it's high strength. I know all of the cool kids are doing it. It just doesn't pass my "look and pucker" test.

it does take some getting used to. though i'm anticipating a bigger pucker switching from straps to 7/64 amsteel daisy chains, even though it'll still be plenty safe (in my opinion). Ripstop forgot to put the roll in my shipment so i'm still waiting to see how they'll look... one way i was able to "trick" my brain about the opux size is that i told myself the abrasion resistance was so much higher, military likely wouldnt use crap line, etc. it helps... about as much as you expect. that and i'm a new hunter so dont have years of experience with thicker ropes to remember.
