fall arrest question

Forgot to mention, there is some rope slip if you're using a prusik that will take up some of the force, but I couldn't tell you if it would be enough to realistically reduce your chance of injury. Too many factors involved to probably be able to calculate reliably.
For me, when I use a rock harness when I'm in a stand, I use one of those elastic inside of webbing tethers that the military uses for the door gunners, along with some hope and prayer. I don't know if any of which will actually save me if I fall. When I'm in my saddle, I just keep my tether tight as much as I can and do my damndest not to be in a position where I'm going to slip.

After reading through the excellent discussion on this thread, I realize the title of my post was wrong. I was really concerned if I slipped on a step or the platform would I slip through the saddle or cartwheel upside down and fall out the top. I wasn't really concerned with how the saddle would "arrest" a fall (i.e. a short drop and a sudden stop) so long there was tension on the tether. But the comments have convinced me its not much of a risk and I went ahead and ordered a saddle. I also picked up some Helium mini sticks and just did my first stick climb out in my backyard to practice. I've run climbers up and down 20-25' without blinking but hitting that 3rd step was a bit of a pucker factor the first time (heights aren't my strong suit). But I got up 4 sticks and back down safely. I'm going to hold off on saddle hunting until next season after I have a handful of practice climbs behind me (my season ends in Dec. anyways).

I have a recon and like others have said - I recently had it fall down to my knees at dark climbing down...wasn't a pleasant feeling and I was regretting the recon system. However, since then I've learned to develop a procedure while climbing up/down or adjusting my saddle - I don't know why Treehopper even includes those "leg straps" because they're useless haha! I've had to replace those with cheap buckle straps from an old backpack (not weight bearing) - I had too since sometimes the bottom part of saddle would either ride down or up.

What I've done is to use my linesman belt attached to the linesman loops as a secondary bridge and my treestand wingman attached to it (one of the best inventions) - that way if something gives (primary bridge or something) then hopefully my wingman will come into play.

Originally - i wanted to purchase an Aerohunter due to their background, reputation, and build quality - but the cost and wait time had me looking in another direction.
