Figure of 8 progress capture???

This happened about a year and half ago. I had a CT scan, but everything was ok. I was sore for at least a month.
To answer your question about how it can happen: the whole thing can invert and spill. That’s what happened to me. There was so much friction that I had to use a ton of force to release and descend. When it finally released, I had no control to stop it from inverting. You can see for yourself at ground level what happens if you keep pulling the small eye of the eight past horizontal.
I've never used this before so maybe this is a stupid question but if u had a prusik backup would it still be able to invert?

You could probably manage the prussic length in a manner that could prevent inversion, but at the very least a prussic backup would keep you from splatting like I did.

Yes, if you don’t hold the brake strand down, when you rotate the small end of 8 down it can invert. A good friction hitch will catch tho, which defeats the purpose of using it this way and is what I came to realize in the posts way above. If your gonna have a friction hitch above, 8 can be used in a way that rappels much more smoothly

If u have a prusik above the 8 gizmo and u are desending would u have to lock the 8 or could u just allow the prusik to grab first and not add the wraps to the 8
When I use the monster munter and prusik back up u don't have to lock the munter... Once the prusik grabs the munter can loosen/untie and u would still be ok

It’s just like using a munster…which is back to your question from another thread of why take extra metal bits to the woods. But, an 8 allows for ascent too if needed.

Of course you can go back up without the 8 too…anyway, back to the dual lock thread….
