First Nice Buck Located

Much to be learned about CWD, however, it shouldnt be used as a scare tactic by State Agency's to control what could be natural in nature. Minerals have been given to livestock for many years without CWD ever becoming a issue. Deer are brose animals and eat more than a variety of plants natural and domestic. If I had to point my finger at its cause it might be pointed at chemicals they tell us are safe but we know they are harmful...lets start there first

I don't disagree with you. Everyone needs to make sure that when their state DEC, DNR, Bureau of Wildlife, etc. promulgate policies or legislative agendas relating to CWD and really for any other wildlife management policy for that matter, they do so with sound science based conservation measures in mind. This ensures the long term health of the herd and continued rights for the wise use of our God given natural resources.

Silvio, btw, is your quote from Roger Rothaar's book "Whitetail Magic?"

Yes, I communicated with Rodger for many years regarding whitetails. Rodger was a true pioneer when he wrote the book "In pursuit of Trophy Whitetail" without this little paperback we may have never known the details of deer and buck behaviors. Rodger had a gift...its a shame the hunting industry drove him out of the limelight. Theres not one person on the outdoor channels and I mean not one who could shine his shoes. I really have to give much of my personal success to him and that little book. Without knowing what different scrapes are all about many of the so called experts would be selling you something else...

You are a blessed man indeed. Thanks for your candor. I have both of his books and cherish them. He was far ahead of his time. I learned about inside corners from Whitetail Magic just to name a few of his many tips. His scouting forays while woodchuck hunting with his bow in the summer/early fall were incredible stories in themselves. This guy didn't have trail cameras and he knew what those bucks were going to do!!! I wish I would have wrote, talked to him but I was a chicken. Glad you were not! I didn't realize what happened with the hunting community? Would you mind elaborating? That bothers me too because he was a true pioneer trophy whitetail bowhunter!!!

Roger was writing at the time for North American Whitetail...For the sake of brevity, while living in Ohio he was dragging a Whitetail out of the woods and was approached by a game warden. Roger hadn't tagged it yet, but was able to convince the conservation officer that he would have once he got the deer out to the road, no tickets were issued until the elite found out he was a trophy hunter. They issued him a ticket and fine. The rest is what it is. Here in Michigan our DNR has separated and divided hunters for years...sorry I'm not a fan of state agencies and policies...Roger was a honest man who was taken down because he wasnt one of them

That is too bad. Here in New York (believe it or not), they allow for that. The tag must be filled out but you do not need to tag the animal until you get it to your vehicle, home, barn etc. They have allowed this since I can remember so you do not risk the tag coming off while dragging it out. I agree with everything you are saying but thankfully, at least for the time being, our DEC still have biologists who are hunters and trappers..... but that landscape is unfortunately changing. I have only good to say so far about our DEC but the highest ranking individuals I don't have much in common with them. And believe it or not, there was legislation introduced this year that would allow the state to spy on your internet activity and posts in the name of safety...… luckily it didn't pass but I don't trust a bit of them at that level. The guys and girls working for the DEC though, in my experience... top notch!!! I need to get back to work!!! Take care and thanks for the information!!!!

Unfortunately that's not the case in Michigan...area biologist have publicly stated they are are anti hunting...that's sad. The truth be told...hunters are the true stewards/ambassadors of our natural resources...but educating sportsman and landowners is going to be a ongoing process as it should be

God bless you brother...its not about the war paint you put on your face like many on the outdoor channel. It's really about doing your out in the field home work and then playing the ultimate chess game that takes prudent decisions, knowledge, and predictions that your in the game to finally throw an arrow one day that was earned. Men like you are far and few, but just after sharing a few words today I know you appreciate the true wisdom of others who paved the way

Absolutely!! and thank you!

lookin great @Silvio! Is one of those the same buck from your June pic? Freight train looks like he wants to do some damage! I have picked up one more buck that I hadn't seen before. His rack is much taller, but not as wide as the other guy. I haven't named them yet. Please ignore the moth that landed on my stinking camera!

Believe it is...seemscas though the bucks are really traveling thru my scrape set ups

I’ve only been able to get one camera pull so far, but this buck should be a dandy this year.
I almost got him from the ground last year while he was tending a doe.
