So, by no means a “trophy” animal, but it was a first deer from my saddle. Made the switch to a saddle (Kite) from using treestands this year and couldn’t be more pleased. Had a couple of encounters with some nice bucks earlier this season in VA where I live, but no harvest. Came down to eastern NC for thanksgiving. Went behind my grandmothers house and set up on some sign my dad found earlier that morning between a bedding area and bean field at the end of a hedgerow. This 3pt buck came out about 5pm on my weak side and gave me a 25 yd broadside shot in the bean field. Watched him fall in the field! FWIW, I’m using 100 gr Grim Reapers. The broadhead never expanded, but it went through the heart so the hit was definitely lethal. The broadhead was new and clean, so there’s no reason why it shouldn’t have opened up. Anyways, after a rather trying season, I was able to punch a tag on a good eatin’ NC whitetail. Thanks to everyone on this forum for sharing such helpful info as it relates to saddles and hunting...saddle hunter for life!!
