Over the last few months I have been buying all my gear for one sticking and finally got my ultimate one stick last week. I got a chance to climb for the first time today and it was way easier then I expected. I climbed three trees and by the third it was really easy. If you are thinking about one sticking go ahead and give it a try it is worth it plus rappelling down is so much fun. Here are a few things I learned already.
- Connect your safeguard and make sure to have enough rope to go around the tree on the ground before you start your climb. I put the rope around my neck for easy access once I climbed up.
- When pulling the stick off the tree going to the side of the stick and leaning over really causes painful hip pinch. Wrapping your legs around the tree and reaching straight underneath you is way more comfortable and it seemed like the stick came loose easier that way.
- I am very glad I got a 3-step aider. The last step was right there for every move without me having to raise my leg at all to put my foot in the step. I got 15 inch between steps and it was not a problem at all. Very natural and easier than my 24inch beast sticks.
- Make sure to put your tether up as high as possible every move. It allows you to create space easier when using the rope to hold the stick.
- The ultimate one stick is perfect for one sticking I am so glad I bought it.
- Personally I think I was quieter one sticking then setting my 4 beast sticks just because I didn't have to unpack sticks and hang them off my saddle climbing the tree.
- It was really nice to get up to a certain height and easily be able to go a little bit higher in order to get better shooting lanes. When using sticks and a platform I always felt once I set up I was stuck in that spot, and many times wishing I would of set up higher.
