FL meetup?

U be back

I think eberhart is onto to something with saddle hunting from a platform. I was getting picked off way too much for comfort. For me I just don't want to do a ring of steps so decided to go back to my trusty lone wolf lock on. I also felt entirely claustrophobic with my bag and bow on either side of the tree, plus the fiddle factor was higher for me on the saddle. The saddle was definitely more comfortable though, that I will miss.

I don’t have a problem with being picked off on a platform but I also keep a couple squirrel steps on my strap so I can walk the back side of the tree instead of turning and making a lot of front side movements. Now with climbing platform stands, I think more people will head to saddles now with ease of climb. Many people just didn’t like the idea of carrying and limping on sticks. But as long as you’re happy with your set up, that’s all that really matters and I think if you wanna come join us for the hunt and hang that you should come (stand and all) lol

Ok guys if we are serious about this, Lake George WMA…..the three dates I am looking at are:
1- January 15 & 16
2- February 5 & 6
3- March 5 & 6
Of the three I like January and February better because March is close of the small game season and may be more crowded than the others. If anyone wants to camp there are good camp grounds. I can reserve spots or I can provide the info for you to reserve your own. We can bring the dates to a vote and majority rules. If you let me or @Weldabeast know you are coming and how many in your party, I’ll make sure that there are burgers and chips for Saturday. Would everyone wanna just meet up and hang out morning time, then plan the hunt Saturday evening OR have the hang out Saturday and then plan the pig hunt for Sunday? We have brought up the very topic of a meet up at least 4 times this year alone so I am taking the initiative to set one up with hopes you guys are serious about it. So y’all just let me know.

AWESOME!!! I'm good with any date, myself. This will give me plenty of time to schedule it off. It will be for sure myself and possible one other. I'll be watching as to where this leads. Thank you FL Canopy Stalker.

I enjoy meeting people and seeing how their styles vary from my own. It’s how we learn. I know there were a lot of guys on the St Vincent island hunt who had never seen a saddle and several who had heard of them but never sat in one. They had questions about climbing, where to put your feet. All of it. It was definitely fun and I think Florida deserves some saddle hunter meet ups that aren’t so commercialized. Do it for the love of hunting as opposed to the love of views or sales! Anyway seriously anyone who is tagged or interested in doing a meet up and a hog hunt, Jan 15-16, February 5-6 or March 5-6, get on here and vote. Then Pm myself or @Weldabeast  let us know how many people you’ll be bringing and if you’re camping or not. After that just show up with your gear and I will handle the rest of the details. Looking forward to meeting everyone

"I know there were a lot of guys on the St Vincent island hunt who had never seen a saddle and several who had heard of them but never sat in one." Not to blow this thread off topic, so PLEASE shoot me a PM, but I hunted here 20 some-odd years ago two years in a row and loved it. . .haven't been drawn since. I would love to hear about it and if the island sustained serious damage to the trees and wildlife from previous hurricanes? Thank you.

Interested. Y’all pick a date and I’ll let you know.

Ok everyone I created a thread and post. If you are serious about attending a Florida meet up and hog hunt please go vote. The poll is open for 7 days. This will give all of us time to set it up, make reservations for those who plan on camping and also time to request off (for y those of you who needs permission from the misses or work)
