I'm sure there are threads with info on the state itself but I am taking a trip to Florida from Virginia in like 6 days. Trying to get on a hog hunt or possibly hit public. It's me and a friend. I just don't know where to start. Any ideas?

No but I will purchase whatever licenses I need beforehand. Any method of hunting works for me
It’s small game season in that area of Fl so you can hunt hogs. You don’t “need” a hunting license to hunt hogs but you will need WMA permits and either bow or gun permits. A Fl sportsman hunting license comes with all of the above which makes it easier. There are a couple really good WMA’s within half an hour of where you are visiting.

I guess without scouting is it worth it to just roll in there and hunt it? I'm a hunter, if I don't see anything I understand, no problem. I just want make sure I'm in the right general area to hunt an animal I've never hunted, in a environment I've never stepped foot on. Lol I'm very unsure

Florida has the second largest wild hog population in the whole country second to only Texas. It’s challenging because they have similar smell and hearing to a deer but are more intelligent. The plus is they are less timid than whitetail and a slave to their stomachs. The coastal WMA’s are over run with them and there is no bag limit. So would it be worth it? Sure. Stay close to water sources such as marsh, swamps and ponds. Also if you choose to rifle hunt, you can only use rimfire during small game season (like a 22Lr) or a shot gun. No center fires are allowed.

Dang I just searched it up and yep, behind Tx is Fl. That’s crazy, Louisiana is 4th and I think of how easy it is just to go in the woods and kill a hog here, I couldn’t imagine what its like there. We hunt them with dogs for the farmers during the summer, but the kicker is when we rot corn in 5 gal buckets and bury it about 3-4 ft. We can usually lay down 20-60 a night. And trust, they get down to that bucket and eat everything but the wire handle. We catch females live and bury cattle panel in a small corral formation and when she goes in heat you can sit there all day and night and pick off males coming in. Literally can’t kill enough of them, luckily they’re extremely good eating (I’d say the best tasting wild game you can eat) keeps me the wife and 6 boys fed year round. And the venison and chicken helps mix things up lol
