Florida quotas....discussion and results

Ever heard of Silver Springs Forest? 4K acres of SJRWMD land, just NE of Silver Springs, was a small game area only last year or 2. First year as a full WMA. Got my attention with a really long archery hunt 9/26 to 10/11 and only 20 permits w/ no exempts. Was an old Rayonier property. Will be up that way in July to walk it a bit!

Silver springs wma isn’t real far from me

Used to drive by it going to hunt ft McCoy

Seen some good deer off 315 while driving by at 5am

I have a ton of pref pts for bow and drew a good hunt but am probably gonna return it and try for silver springs next yr

If ur looking for someone to walk it with u , I’d try to meet up with u

Florida public land saddle get together? If somebody found a good centralized wma I'd ride to participate in that...
Have to be at the end of the year small game when u dont need a quota to be in there

Appreciate it! I've been doing a bunch of aerial searching and found some really good lidar data online for Marion County. I manage natural areas for a living so I get used to reading aerials. There are some pretty neat topography/creek features in there as well as quite a few pinches/edges that look great. This year will be my first in a saddle, but I've been pretty mobile in my style the last few years, and spent allot of time hunting from the ground and low in trees. I live about 3hrs away so I'm really thinking of waiting until the Friday before the hunt before getting on the property. Because it's not your typical 3 day hunt, I feel that if I go in with 5-10 spots to check I will be more likely to stick to the freshest sign instead of sign or a sighting from the summer.

That sounds like a plan

sshhhhhhh! lol Good luck!
Just trying to help out my fellow Floridians.....it took me years to figure out the quota system.....I hope I help others with that learning curve....if someone would have pointed me in the right direction and gave me some tips I would have been so grateful.
Good luck this season

Now where are the south fla guys at? Y'all should be posting up some kills...9 days in for some of u

I know this system is screwy to learn

It’s good to look out for each other

I’ve already had a nice archery pic sent yesterday to me from friend of a friend in south FL

Hope to see some SH south FL bucks soon

Maybe that info above isn't accurate....I turned a hunt back in and didnt increase the preference point.....ooppps for some reason I thought it did

it’s only a preference point if it’s a phase 1 turn in. Anything after that does not add points.

Yep this is correct

Only get the pref pt for phase 1 returns

How did u guys do?.I was lucky this year and got a quota in every season. 1st archery in guana, 1st muzzleloader at camp blanding, and a gun hunt in blanding zone 2 and the pipeline in Ocala forest... hog hunt in Jennings forest in Feb 2021....this season turning out to offer the most days in the woods more than all my past years. Learned of 2 areas of public that don't require quotas that I'll be hunting this year as well.......canoe really opened up a lot of options for me.....blessed hunting season for sure.... Not trying to be braggadocios....just very excited. Hope u all have had the same luck I've had with ur quotas.

22 days and counting for North Florida.

Where u south fla guys at? U guys been hunting almost a month now

I got the first black powder in camp blanding also. Did you get area 1 or 2?
10/13-10/15 area 1....i may skip this 1 out if I get the Cary muzzleloader in this latest reissue drawing. If I don't get that 1 then I'll be out at blanding

I did good this year.. Silver Sorings (1st year deer hunt on new wma) and a good wma (per harvest data and cyberscouting anyways!) in the western panhandle for muzzy and gun. Haven't pulled a redraw yet... 0 for 4 since the redraws began but that's the norm....

No redraws for me yet either
