FMJ Arrows & Penetration

I feel like my FMJ’s with ST Mag 125’s can blow through anything. Total arrow weight is just over 500 grains and I’m pulling 68 lbs. They hit like a Mack truck...

Shot a buck last year heavily quartered towards me at 20 yards. Arrow entered the crease behind his shoulder perfectly, ran through his entire body, exited out right in front of his rear haunch and stuck in the ground on the opposite side.

Never had any bending issues personally and I see no need to switch away from the FMJ - love em

Man that's a great testimony for FMJ's

Did the arrow encounter any bone besides ribs?

Based on ranch fairy vids and info... I built my arrows this season. I went with black eagle deep impact and my total weight is 598 grains. I'm shooting at 230 fps. Those arrows are solid.

Nope, clean through minus the ribs. I sent one through a doe this year - clean through the opposite shoulder, no issues at all. Still punched through and stuck in the ground.

I like FMJ myself

I have not shot FMJ arrows. Most of my limited experience comes from shooting Axis arrows. My observations come from shooting the same weight Axis arrows with more FOC. After my first year hunting bigger bodied deer I was looking for more penetration. I was shooting 465 grain total weight Axis with fixed blade broad-head and couldn't get pass through on them. I was able to maintain same arrow weight by making arrow length shorter and going to heavier insert and 125 grain broad-head up front. I have gotten pass through shots on all deer except one that stuck in the offside shoulder quartering away. FOC change was 10% to 16%. I'm a believer in FOC making a difference and I know more weight will penetrate better.
