For those still in the woods..

Here in Mississippi, or the south in general really, where the temps don’t get down low and stay low, we have snakes out and about year round.. We may get down to 25 degrees, like we will Monday, but we go right back to 75, like today haha... The south and snakes go hand in hand...

Glad i read this after my hunt this evening. I was around a boggy area.

nope moccasins are known to fall out of trees and into boats or canoes , you should always be watchful on low hanging limbs.
I saw where that’s a defense reaction, they fall from the tree because they are scared. Then I am scared because they fall in the boat. Water snakes do the same. If that’s not right please correct me.

Well, snakes falling into a boat ain’t right, but the reason is what I meant.

Great snake and great gesture. A real outdoorsman!!!

I ran into this cottonmouth down in a swamp in December. He got aggressive so he caught a 308 to the face. I'm ok with snakes but I'm not ok with snakes that rise up outta the leaves and try to strike

Wow, we had something similar and actually worse happen here in North Alabama this summer. There was a guy kayaking here and a copperhead dropped down in his kayak and bit him. Unfortunately he was extra sensitive/allergic to the venom and he passed away. I remember reading how rare it is that someone dies from a copperhead bite. No man knows what the future holds.

My grandpa Horse hated rattlers. Was born in Utah in 1890s. The biggest rattler I ever saw was 27 rattles and a button. Last I saw it was hanging in Dan's store Minnersville Utah.

Been a bunch of years back but we were rabbit hunting in January, rivers were high and had the swampers all pushed up. Up about mid morning one of the guys hollars out snake. We go over to him and he is pointing at a 3' long rattler up in a bush about neck high. we stood there talking about it for a few minutes and how odd it seemed for a rattler to be up in a bush like that in cold weather, it was low 30's that morning. We all started to fan out and literally same guy took about 8 steps and hollars out again. Another rattler about the same size again about neck high. Rabbit hunting got tougher the rest of the day lol.

Seen plenty of cottonmouths in trees and bushes and those two rattlers but never seen a copperhead off the ground. Prolly just trying to get away from the skeeters.

Yup, my wife stomped a Copperhead to death last month. Very rare to see them in our yard, but occasionally one gets brave. One of my dogs played hero and got bit on the lip. He was miserable for about 12 hours but pulled thru.View attachment 23795

Some Benadryl goes a long way. My landlord is a vet and he says they don’t do much more than that at the clinic, but charge an arm and a leg for it. Dogs are tough.
