My son got really jealous when I showed him pictures from the 3D course I went to recently. He wants to go too. So there is a local club that has a 3D course shoot once a month. So I'm planning to take him.

Problem is I don't have a bow for him at the moment. He does have a Mathews Genesis he got for his 6th birthday! But I realized the mistake, its too heavy for him. He simply was not able to hold that bow. I was too excited hoping he would love archery so I got him something that he can compete with. But I didn't realized it was 3lbs bare! So it wasn't fun for him to shoot that bow, so he stop trying.

So I'm glad that he is interested again. Going to start him with a recurve/longbow. I wish I got him a Maddog Archery Youth bow when I got mine.

Anyway, is there a good middle price bow you can recommend? I don't want to go completely cheap fiberglass Amazon special. It doesn't have to be a 'grow with you' bow, just something that he can use from 9 to maybe 11. Can always pass it down to his sister. For a 9 year old, I'm thinking 15-20 lbs at his draw. Thinking of a 54" Samick Polaris or similar.

Thank you!

Someone posted this early in another thread.

Usually a 9-year-old can pull a 25lb bow because there draw length is short. That will give them a little more time before they outgrow it. Most of the cheap three-piece recurves are pretty nice for the cost.

I highly recommend the Samick Little Fox, I just sold one to @sdorton that my son and niece both used. Comes in a 54" and 58" version and you can get limbs that range from 10 - 29lbs. The weight is measured at around a 25" draw length if I remember right. My son started with 20# limbs at that age and moved to the 29# shortly after that. My niece had no problem with the 29# limbs when she was 9.

My grandson uses a Samick Little Fox, 48" long
He started (age 7) with 12 lb. draw and now uses the 25 lb. limbs, (age 10)
I recently ordered the 25 lb. limbs from Lancaster archery.
It is a good quality recurve but maxes out at the 25 lb. limbs.
