Hey all,

I called in a fork buck on the 7th and since then it has been just me and the trees. So, today I posted up on a ridge and got nothing. I was heading down the mountain at around 12 to a new spot when I came upon a deer trail that led to a south-facing ridge full of sticker bushes. I forgot the wind direction (NNW) for a second and it was coming ever so slightly behind me. I followed it and saw a lot of deer poop, I crossed the ridge and bam, white flags everywhere 10 yards from me, sprinting away. It was so thick I could only see their tails. There was no way I could circle below as it seems that area is just a large bowl of thick sticker bushes. I tried though and had bloody hands to show for it. I spent the rest of the afternoon looking for a way to access it from the south and found no easy route in. Did some other scouting. By then I had to go and forgot my TP. The fall season ends Friday, then picks up again after Christmas. At least I saw deer!

Follow up questions. I've read that bucks like to bed on ridges where they can see down the ridge and the wind is at their backs, which seems like what I walked into yesterday. On Wednesday, the wind is forecasted to be in the opposite direction, so if they are bedded in the same place the wind will be in their face. The only position I can access that area without bleeding everywhere and making a racket is on the ridge, so in that case, on Wednesday the wind will be in my favor, BUT, will the bucks even be there because the wind is wrong for them? If they are bedded there, then how far away should I find a tree and hunt from? Final question, it's post-rut here, so what time would be best to post up? In case this helps, there are food plots about 200 meters away in three directions.
