Grip Insulation

I've used batting tape (baseball bat) on an ILF Recurve grip. It doesn't mar the wood and it stays in place, because it sticks to itself.
This works great for when you're wearing cloth gloves in colder weather.

that's slick....how does the thickness compare to the thin, overwrap tennis racket tape (the stuff that goes over an existing tennis grip....not the thick, padded replacement stuff)?

i use thin tennis tape over a bowtech with the factory grip removed

raisins,
Batting tape is slightly thicker, but it will get thinner if you stretch it as you wrap it.
It makes good insulation as well as traction for a good grip.

Grip tape from bowmar archery.

One pack will wrap your bow twice.

Works awesome in the cold and even better in the heat. Used to have all kinds of trouble with my bow sliding around once my palm was sweaty, has not been an issue a single time since putting the tape on there.

I have also used bowmar grip tape to keep my aluminum bow warmer in the winter. Works. good. A downside to grip tape is just that "the grip". It can help cause bow torque. It can be a little scary until u get used to it but a slick grip slides into place and is easily repeatable with no torque. Tim Gillingham wins just about everything and he shoots with a spandex type glove on his bow hand just for this reason. Let's the bow repeat itself without the human error on the grip.

I heard him talk about on the most recent Kifarucast. While I agree Tim is one of the best archers to ever hold a bow another equally good, arguably better archer, Levi Morgan, shoots the bowmar tape on all of his bows. So at the end of the day its a matter of what works best for the individual. Personally would rather put my hand in the same spot every time and just have it stay there.

I’ll have to go back and watch but I don’t remember seeing the tape on Levi’s bow at the London Kentucky ASA

Looking at his IG you might be right, I can't see it on his most recent pic. Pretty sure he still runs it on his hunting bow and I know it has been on some of his target bows.

Even if he quit using, the bigger issue is that everyone should shoot what works best for them. For me personally it caused a lot of anxiety when my bow would slip around, so having it not slip results in me shooting better. Tim might be right that the most consistency is achieved his way, but it caused more harm than good for me.

I went back and looked. He didn’t but I have seen tons of grip solutions on bows at competitions. All I know to tell anyone is. It doesn’t have to be right just repeated. I’ve tried lizard skin, hockey tape, batting tap and I’m always going back to a naked grip. I do love what prime has done though. I have seen a guy make a small small dimple in his grip that way his index finger always finds it and his other fingers fall in place.

2 years ago at the pa tac shoot I seen a guy had made a coustom grip with some kind of moldable bondo type material on his mathews triax. He molded it to his hand so he had exact placement, repeatable every time and could not move it if he wanted too.looking back I wish I spent more time talking to him and took some pics. I've never tried anything like that but it worked for him.looked like if u put play do on your bare riser then squeezed your hand into shooting position, cut of excess and polished the rough edges. He really did a nice job on it

Now that does sound very interesting. I would definitely do that if I could. That does seem like something I should look into. Almost like making a mold or taking a item and boiling it like you would a mouth piece but like a grip.

I made a simple fleece sleeve that I use electrical ties to attach. I then place a handwarmer in it. It works really well to keep my hand warm.

this is the reason i removed my bowtech clutch grip and wrapped bare metal with the thinnest tennis grip i could find

that narrow grip slides right into the pocket consistently

That is interesting. I think Hobby Lobby sells moldable silicone putty - 'sugru' or something like that. You wouldn't need much.
