Does anyone have any experience with the handheld gps with sos? Looking for one and not really any good choices that i can find...

Garmin inreach explorer is a stand-alone gps, sos, and capable of texting too when you have no signal.

I have friend who uses the Garmin inreach for snowmobiling. He loves his. Im thinking of getting one. The map features I saw were awesome!! He said its what most of the guys he rides with use. Good luck. Let us know if you settle on one. Id like to hear how you like it.

What’s the difference between the explorer and se?

I looked into the inreach last night and really liked the features on it. Think it will give the wife a piece of mind on the sos feature. At least she'll know where to pick up the body for the life insurance policy. Lol

I just ordered 2 of the garmin inreach off ebay used for way under price. If you just refresh by buy it now and newly listed eventually you'll see one pop up for 200 -250 dollars. I got two explorers for just over 200 each.

I have had great success for years with the Garmin in reach the first one without a screen.
I use it for texting work when in the hills or offshore fishing. It always worked well.

OnX was worthless at tracking and creating waypoint on my Iphone while scouting and placing trail cameras today. Is Garmin InReach better when remote? I didn't have offline maps down loaded. Could that have been the issue? It seemed to wonder a lot and be off by why more than the typical 50' or so. I'm on the north facing mountain. Could that have effected it?

Anyone run garmin 64st with a separate spot device?

Yeah, I download the maps at home before going into woods. I like onx. I only use the inreach for texting and sos options not as a gps.

I use OnX and then I have a Spot GPS one way messenger that you can pre-program messages. It does the job for me and it helps me feel disconnected (one less screen to stare at) while making my family feel comfortable. If I were to get a new one it would be Garmin Inreach

Keep in mind, GPS will be jammed from Jan 16-24th for several hours a day throughout the Southeast and carribean.

I do the same. Nice thing about the inreach is you can turn off the service during the off-season and it saves you money.
