I can't find another link I used before where the bar tack was a bit different.

If someone was going to do a hand bar tack, would you use this method or another one?

I need to sew 4 webbing lashing points on a new pack, and don't want to try it with my little cheap sewing machine. I also don't feel like sending it away because I am also using it for summer hiking and scouting (the same pack).

I’ve done some hand bartacks years ago. It takes a while and it’s never as clean looking as a machine tacker but it was pretty strong. What size tacks are you trying to put on?

What stitch did you use? Something like my link?

I am going to get some 1 inch, flat webbing and then tack those to my pack to form some lashing loops.

I'll have a minimum of 4 lashing points from the webbing. And 2 bar tacks for each piece of webbing. So, each bar tack will be around 1 inch long.

I always use a full back stitch. I went 5 passes down (approximately one inch) using a back stitch, then I’d went up with circle stitches spaced slightly further apart than the site you referenced. Then I went back down the stitch in opposing circular stitching (forming zig zag stitches) and finished up with 5 passes straight up over the zig zags using a back stitch again. I have an auto tacker though if you want that pack done real quick.

can't figure out pics in DMs, so here's the pic to go along with messagepack mod.gif

Bar tacks are not needed. Just do multiple passes with straight stitch. I have made a ton of gear this way and have never had a failure.
