Well I did do the 5 gal of water test setting it up like you would to climb. Instead of clipping yourself into the grigri, you clip the bucket/deer to it.
Its comparable to a cheap deer hoist that only has single pulley, the double line pulleys are much easier to work with. The better thing is that the grigi gives you a chance to rest without having the lockbar on the deer hoists messing with you. So it would be a bit of an effort to get a deer high enough to get to everything without bending over much and keeping the deer away from the offal. Possible issue is with the hand ascender getting too high so you can get it off the rope so you can get the rope down. Which shouldnt really be a problem as you can clip yourself back into the grigri and climb up a bit to remove the ascender and get the rope down.
Another possible use for this that I thought of while moving is deer retrieval. I got a creek that runs through the main property I hunt and it seems like every third deer I kill ends up in it. Most times im lucky and theres a flat bank nearby I can drag it too. In the event it gets to a spot that I cant get to, Im thinking I can use this to raise the deer out of the ditch or holler if needed in more extreme cases.
