Has anyone taken deer with a .357 mag revolver?

I’ve been wearing over the ear muffs that enhance my hearing and cancel out gunfire at a certain decibel level but they are clunky and noisy but I do hear better with them. I just need to remember to take them and I try to go as light as possible.

During archery it’s a harder sell for me to take them but I’m sure I’d hear more. I remember as a kid mosquitoes landing on my skin and it sounded like fighter jets landing on an aircraft carrier. Lol. Seriously though, if you’re going to a handgun be sure to salvage your hearing as much as you can.

I may look into the 3M inner ear plugs @raisins spoke of above.
 
I killed a nice 8-point with a 9mm handloaded with a 147 grain XTP. Deer was about 35 yards, quarter to me slightly. Double-lunged him, bullet went through body but stopped at the skin. Buck went about 40 yards and fell like a stone.

I wanted to see if it was effective, but didn't trust myself or the round with a shot over 50 yards, so I waited until the perfect situation presented itself. (this was out of a PCC, not a regular pistol) Seven-inch barrel, red dot optic.

Based on that experience, I'd have zero concerns about shooting a deer with a .357. (other than my own abilities)

I chose those instead of the over ear style because I wanted a slimmer profile and I hoped the in ear ones would preserve the directionality/depth perception of usual hearing. I think it does a good job. I did a deep dive when I bought these, and the 3M seemed to be the most reliable. I didn't want any extra features (like synching to the phone for calls or music) because that's just more stuff to break on it.

I bought a suppressor a few years ago.

Should have done it 20 years ago. It's a delight.

I'm jealous...I just don't rifle hunt enough to justify all the hoops and cost.

I wish the gov't would realize that a can on a rifle is just for hearing protection....legislators watching too many mafia movies. Same reason balisongs are so tightly regulated....but in that case ninja movies.

It's pretty simple these days.

They got rid of the $200 tax stamp and form 4s are coming back approved in a couple weeks from what I hear, never been cheaper or faster.

Thought about it once or twice. Sticking a 6-in device on an already 26-in barrel and walking through mountain laurel is not my idea of fun.

Yea, I don't carry my rifle any distance with it attached. But in treestands, tripods, shoot houses, etc, I will never not have it.

I also have a lightweight CVA Hunter (single shot) with a 20" barrel that I had threaded, and that's what I usually carry when I'm mobile hunting.

Hunting aside, it's been great for helping teach new shooters between the bang and the recoil reduction. I also put it on my 22 and it's quiet, even with supersonic ammo, but if you run subsonics, you can't help but smile.
 
Any opinions on Axil XCORE buds for range AND hunting? I've always worn plain old plugs or basic muffs at the range but those aren't what I want for the woods.

I have the Axil GS Extreme 2.0 and have used them for the last 2 or 3 Turkey seasons. I thought the wire would bother me but it's really not an issue. I love the sound enhancement. The sound cut off worked great. Can't speak to range use, as I use over the ear there. Haven't used them connected to my phone. I leave them in my Jeep and charge them overnight and they last all day.
 
I haven’t shot one with a 357 yet, but I’m going to this year. I have a 6.5” barrel Blackhawk that I’m putting a micro red dot on and plan to hunt with.

I’ve killed several with a 45 Colt out of a 4-5/8” Blackhawk. Just keep shots reasonable and put it through the lungs
