Have you ever NOT shared information?

We’ve got the pigs in Texas... in fact, our governor just signed a new law that, starting Sept 1, a license will NO LONGER be needed to hunt pigs.
That’s crazy, and tells you just how bad it’s getting.
The city of Dallas has a 2 year contract with a trapping company, for $347,000 ... I heard that they cost the city $4 million a year in damage. .

You fellas saying yes need to do a little research on successful brainstorming. To summarize: more ideas = better results/products. You never know when your average idea might be the spark someone else needs to formulate a great idea. By not sharing, you are simply holding back the community . How dare you :tearsofjoy:

I get the safety side of it...but if I had a decent idea I'd share it with the qualifier that it has not been fully tested/vetted. Try at your own risk. But I haven't had any ideas posing a safety risk....yet!

You also don’t know if your idea is going to get someone killed.

I would like to share this information which I googled.....In rare cases, drinking an extreme amount in a short time can be dangerous. It can cause the level of salt, or sodium, in your blood to drop too low. That's a condition called hyponatremia. It's very serious, and can be fatal. You may hear it called water intoxication. So don't take too much water when you are hunting.
I like to share all the good things I know on this site.... for our safety. Hunting is risky. My disclaimer

Think of it as they already know it’s not safe and will probably cause imminent death. Then if they prove themselves wrong they will share.

Fair points...I was thinking me personally. I'm past the stage of regular unnecessary risk. Now...me in my 20's would have been a different ballgame! Something that risky would be an immediate discard these days. Or a posed question of "is there a way to do something like this safely?"

There are sooo many things I'm not sharing right now. I'm such a jerk. :D

I went for 20 some years without telling anybody about saddle hunting. And I actually had real live acquaintqances back then. So yeah, I'm guilty of it. I always kind of considered it like giving up my mushroom hunting spots. You just don't do it. Currently there are some good people, stretching their necks out in a fledgling hunting arena, who are creating more options for all of us. So thats a good thing. I wish them all the best. However, since I have nothing to gain financially, from the rise in saddle hunting popularity I more than likely, still wouldn't be advertising my hunting style, if I wasn't on this site. I really don't need the competition.:grimacing:

If it were not for Saddle Hunting Forum and YouTube I would not know about this hunting system. I consider all post information only. It is my responsibility to use the information wisely. I am responsible for my own safety. If the founders of this forum had not wanted to share their knowledge the explosion of saddle hunting would not have come to be. I do not think others in my area using saddle systems will disturb my areas where I hunt. You will find most of the competition setting around the local hangout drinking coffee talking a good hunt.

Was scrolling through here at work like I often do & found this old thread, and I have a confession to make.... Until the last few years I rarely told anyone about saddle hunting, period. I started saddle hunting in 2004 on public land. I was hunting in highly pressured areas where deer would walk through the woods looking up for hunters. My first season I never got busted or blown at. Even if I had deer look directly at me, being tucked behind the tree would break me up enough that they would stay calm and go back about their business. So after realizing this “new” found advantage I had, I wanted to keep it to myself. Now I wouldn’t lie about it. If someone asked about what tree stand I used I would explain to em. Most of my friends referred to it as a “sex swing”! So in a way I was disappointed here a few years back when they started becoming more popular. I actually started doing research about them in 2002 & my only regret has been not jumping in sooner!

I just read ur comment and that’s almost what I just revealed... except I hadn’t been doing it quite that long, I bought my first commercial saddle in 2004 from Bass Pro Shops & wish I had started it sooner!

It also made me bitter towards Trophyline that they got out of the saddle game when they were the only company making em for a while and then after other companies advertised and made saddles relevant then they started producing em again, but it was the same old version. The same one that made everyone start making their own or modding SitDrags. It looks like they’ve FINALLY started listening to consumer and trying to catch up to modern saddles. Honestly it did irk me when they came back hyping up their Ambush and it turned out to be not much different than the stuff they made 20 years ago that made people go the DIY route. That being said, I did use their saddle for a few seasons & killed deer from it before I broke down and made my own that I hunted out of for a good 10 years. I bought a Kestrel that wasn’t any more comfortable than my handmade one, but the recent evolution of the 2 panel design has surpassed the comfort of my homemade one!

I eventually share most of my ideas on here. I’m hesitant to share some ideas because I am pretty confident in my ability to splice Amsteel. I use some attachment methods that would probably get flamed as being unsafe.

I’m definitely guilty of not sharing how many deer I see when I hunt my in-laws. He wants me to shoot all of them (they eat his garden). I often tell him that they were out of range or just couldn’t get a good shot because I’m holding out for a better deer.

Sometimes it’s hard to let your “baby” out into the world, there’s the possibility of you being the only one on the planet with this knowledge.
