Have you ever....Sold a Bow, to Buy a Bow?

I have a habit of sorts, that after I've had a bow for a while, I'll get my hands on something else and start thinking of what I could sell to buy this one. I've done this most of my life with bows, guns, cars, etc. Fortunately, there have only been a few of those items sold, that I wished I had back.

As we speak, I'm selling an Elite Ritual 30 compound that's only 5 years old, to purchase a custom Longbow.

What have you sold, for the cash that was next in line to be purchased?

Honestly that’s the only way I’ve been able to afford higher end bows. Wait a couple years until someone gets the itch for a new bow and dumps it, I grab it and shoot it for awhile then sell it and get another. Also, early in my archery journey I wasn’t sure what brand I liked so I went through several brands till I settled on the one I liked. The archery shop close to me wasn’t very patient with folks so I had to buy and try, trial and error.

I have done that all my life with everything. I made money on most of my vehicles when I was young. I can’t say the same for the last 3 bows I bought and sold.

I literally done that for the last 5 years. None of my compound bows were new. I actually traded most of my compound bows for recurves and longbows, only have 2 now. Most of my recurves/longbow are that way. only new bows in my possessions were paid for by selling other bows. I always assumed that what everyone did. I think most of the guys who get new compound bow every year have a 'leasing' mindset. That whatever money they lost selling their current bow to get the newer one, its basically the cost of 'renting/leasing' which honestly its not as bad as car ownership. Most compound bow loses 10-15% of their value after a year, so you're basically paying 200-300 to keep shooting the newest bow every year, not bad honestly. There is always someone who would buy it.

Never, In fact I still have all but two of the bows I've ever owned over my 52 bow seasons. One of those was stolen from my truck while it was broken down along the road and another I gave to a buddy who didn't have a bow so he could bow hunt. FWIW I wish I still had both of those too, they were my first and second bows. I typically use them so long that they're not worth anything when I'm done with them. My current hunting compounds are a 2013 and 2014 Elite E32's that are setup identically (so I have an immediate backup if something goes wrong) and a @movehuntir made long bow. I'm still happy with both setups and am not yet ready to make a change.

Guilty As Charged.... I've Even Sold Stuff on Here Only to Buy it Back Later Just to Try it Again....Duh! In My Defense Though I'm Shooting a Low End Bow That is Over 10 Yrs Old and Very Happy With it. I Even Bought a New Model Just to Upgrade and Sold it to Keep the Old One!

I still have my first compound bow that I'll never sell, else I have to change my user name. A Mathews Creed, still grouping baseball at 50 yards one day a year.

When I sell my current Elite Ritual 30, I'll be purchasing a custom longbow from Tom Moran, in Monroe, Michigan. He is the owner of River Raisin Longbows. He had some of his bows on display at the Temperance, Michigan bow club called Tomahawk Bowhunters, at one of their recent 3D shoots. I wish I would've purchased one while I was there. However, he's supposed to be at the new location of the Compton Traditional Bowhunter's Rendezvous, in Nobilesville, Indiana, on June 18th thru the 21st.

I'd like to get there early before his selections get picked over and get a good one.
