Has anyone seen these? They look pretty similar to the squirrel steps, but with that spur at the bottom.

Straight rip off of squirrel steps. Like I know there are only so many ways to make an aluminum step, but they could at least feign some kind of innovation or uniqueness.

Yeah the biggest difference seems to be the spike at the back of the step.

Isn't that what the old API Skyhooks look like? I used to own a few but sold them on here. Old design.

Most bandages seem to be designed just like a Bandaid.

How wide are the monkey bar steps. I read on this site that EWO has a 1" wide step out now. Competition is a good thing.

they’re probably squirting out logs of step shaped aluminum and chopping each individual step off.

ill repeat it for the ones in the back who didn’t hear. Unless you make a product that is so wildly different, your IP is protected by a very broad patent umbrella, you will be ‘ripped off’.

if you expect iterative innovation NOT to occur, you’re mismanaging your expectations.

I love Dano, and EWO. I have a bunch of squirrel steps. I prefer his product and service. But if I had to make the choice between no steps and hawk steps, it’s an easy one. And there are lots of folks who don’t have SS as an option.

the pearl clutching is fun to watch - but it does turn into judgment of the fella who has 50.00 to spend on steps, but not 150.00...

Just a quick thought on making the SS more stable for side pressure. If you ran a rope or possibly a strap through the hole at the bottom of the steps, along with the strap through the top slot and used either a truckers hitch for a rope or an OCB on a strap I'll bet you could all but eliminate the side movement. What do you think?

Nah... they are a rip off of Loggy Bayou steps without the slot
They look very much like the loggy Bayou and apI skyhook. Both of those had that little claw on the back.

@DanO came to @redsquirrel, and myself for feedback on the design of the squirrel step. The name is based on redSQUIRREL and the fact that I'm a big squirrel hunter. So I definitely back EWO and their products.

That said, I have nothing against somebody extruding a step and charging less. Look at a mission vs an ambush. Or cut down APIs vs beast sticks. Some folks will choose the cheaper product that does 80% of what the expensive one does. Some folks will want that extra 20% that makes a thing perfect and won't care what it costs. EWO didn't invent the strap-on step. I think they greatly improved upon it by making it smaller, lighter, and stronger, but it wasn't a new thought.

As far as safety, I've never heard of an extruded aluminum step failing. I highly doubt that's a concern. The only thing I realistically think they could screw up is failing to polish the edges of the slot which would wear through the strap. But most recalls of steps are due to buckle failures. That's your weak link no matter what step or stick or stand you're using. But hey, you're tethering in before you step onto your platform or ring of steps, right?

Now, I do think that little cam buckle is going to frustrate a lot of folks. Not sure why they didn't go with a ratchet strap or ocb.
