Hey everyone!

I’m new to saddle hunting and looking to get my first platform. I’ve been looking at the HAWK Saddle Platform and the XOP EDGE, as both seem to fit within my budget. Since I’m just starting out and want to keep things low-cost to see if this is really for me, I’d love to hear your opinions on which one might be better for a beginner.

Which one would you recommend for someone just starting out? Thanks in advance for the help!

My advice would be to scour the classifieds here and see what used options are available, there is a used ridge runner that is about the same price as a new XOP Edge and there may be other options listed as well. Between Hawk and XOP I would choose XOP, although I've never used either so that is just an uninformed decision.

I've got a couple XOP Edge platforms. They are pretty solid, reasonably sized, quiet, but heavy. Never had any issues with them, other than the weight. I don't hike in very far to my hunting grounds, so it's not really an issue for me. IF I did have much of a walk, I'd find something lighter. I've got a Tethrd Predator, and a Workhorse XL. Both are far lighter, have plenty of room on them, totally silent, and very solid. You could find the Workhorse XL on ebay for around $150 new.

Hey bud, right now I am running an xop edge. like @Ehunter said solid and sturdy to the tree and quite but heavy as all hell. I believe it comes in at 5.6 pounds. Since your newer to saddle hunting might be worth the cheaper price point to see if you like it or look at marketplace.

Tethrd has the predator platform on sale currently for $150 (just food for thought) it only weighs 3.5lbs

Hawk one I got and didn’t like it at all did not bite well Xop is what I run now ,love it , cams super well only down fall is weight like 5.4 lbs . If you can deal with it . Solid as hell

I like my xop but really like my mission clone. I converted both to climbing platforms. Using a shaffer cam cleat I really like the cam cleat even if I don't climb with an aider on when I 2tc up its easy to put on the platform.
