He shall crush your head...

It’s not written in stone at this point, and your experience surely trumps random research. From what I gather there is an actual difference in venom composition in immature snakes. Research says it changes slightly as they mature. The main objection to immature snakes being more dangerous seems to be objected to mainly on the basis of the sheer volume that an adult has vs the much smaller capacity of a juvenile. If you’re into tedious reading, here is a longish paper looking at the issue.

Thank you, I’ll definitely take the time to read it. I always heard the juveniles would empty their venom all in one bite especially if it were a defensive bite. I never figured they had more venom or a higher concentration, especially like rattlesnakes where adults are capable of like 400-600 ppm but juveniles only between 80-160 ppm. However adults know how much they need to use and they know the importance of keeping enough venom in the reserve tank. Juveniles typically aren’t as experienced so I bought into the idea that their bites usually contain more due to lack of experience. I truly appreciate you posting this. I am all about learning

It is! It rains at like 3pm until 5 every day from May until September. In between rain storms it’s 95-102 with 100% humidity. The bodies of water with salt have sharks, the ones that are fresh have gators. Pretty much every creek and swamp has gators and snakes. There are no freezes to kill off the ticks, mosquitoes, and gnats. I’ve seen more Christmas mornings in the upper 80’s than I’ve seen snow in my life. Our deer are the size of most coon hounds and we get hit with two or three hurricanes every year. I mean if it was any better, we’d be Louisiana lol just kidding it’s great and you should come down

Can’t argue at all. Only thing I miss is fishing in the Gulf!!!!!!!!!

I have a creek and small pond in my back yard. My neighbor has a good bit of swamp with a couple of gators about a 1/4 mile down the creek. There is a good population of cotton mouths and a few copperheads, but even more non-venomous. I joined a snake ID group when I mistook a water snake for a cotton mouth. I have float-fished a small stream nearby for many decades and have seen some unusual specimens. As long as they don’t surprise me I’m fine. It’s when one licks my knee (true story) as I’m driving my Jeep down the road, or falls in the boat that gets my heart fluttering. I love facts and good stories, and hope I never stop collecting them.
