Headlamp

STORM375 HEADLAMP - Black Diamond, think this is the model I have. So far really nice. Switches from white, red, blue, green, strobe flash, set default to low mode but one tap with finger port for full brightness. In spot mode I was able to shine well over 100 yards in an open field. Only AAA batteries though, think 6 or 8. Waterproof. Left it hanging at base of my tree in Nov., was out for a week in rain/snow. Had to replace batteries but no issues.

Confirmed, this is what i have, paid $50 ...

DESCRIPTION

The Storm375 is engineered for epics in all conditions, featuring a robust waterproof/dustproof housing and 375 lumens of bright light. With a new, compact body, the Storm375 is more ergonomic, and the updated user interface includes a secondary switch for easy mode selection. In addition, the updated optical efficiency not only provides brighter light, but also saves battery life that you can now easily track with a six-setting, three-LED battery meter. The Storm375 also has three different colored night vision modes and peripheral white lighting for close-range activities like carefully re-racking for the final summit pitch in the dark. The headlamp has our Brightness Memory feature, which allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default, full power setting. The Storm375’s PowerTap Technology enables you to quickly and easily access maximum brightness with the touch of a finger.

  • PowerTap™ Technology allows instant transitioning between full and dimmed power
  • Brightness Memory allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to full power
  • Regulated for constant light output
  • Compact, low-profile design uses four AAA batteries
  • Settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red, green and blue night-vision, and lock mode
  • Multifaceted optical lens design
  • Waterproof and dustproof: Sealed housing withstands immersion over 1m for 30 minutes (IPX67)

What is a good head lamp you guys are using. Preferably one that has the green or red light plus your regular light. Thanks

I have 2 petzles. Both are olive colour. The older one had an olive band and used different colour sliding filters. The newer one has a multicam band and a red and a white LED.

I almost exclusively use red (except I would use white if looking for a blood trail). I’m fact I can usually get down out of my tree and walk back to the car without ever turning on the light except perhaps to scan the ground around the tree to make sure I didn’t forget anything.

Whatever brand you get I recommend one that takes AAA batteries or similarly easy to find ones.

My predator tactics light came in today. It’s very bright. I was shining my back yard and could easily make a 200 yard shot with the red lens. The batteries didn’t come fully charged either. I’m sure I can get a 300 yard shot once fully charged. The only downside to this light is it’s a bit heavy and I can’t shoot a rifle with it on my head. I mainly bought it for a scanning light and shotgun kills. My partner will be on the rifle. My next purchase will be a rifle mounted light.

Black Diamond Storm. I own at least 3 of them. Maybe a couple more if they ever turn up. Holy smokes do I manage to lose flashlights.

Reliable, simple, decently good battery life especially on lithiums and if you don't abuse the high power setting. Locking feature is definitely a must for me. The adjustable strength beam is great if you need to run it on high for tracking or save battery when you're just walking in/out. One thing I miss on all the headlamps I own is the ability to focus the beam for tracking. The controls are simple. I had a princeton tec that was like programming the space station to try to figure out what sequence to press the button to get to each setting. I've been through a few different comparable Petzl and Princeton Tec models on the lower end of the price range and the Storm blew them all out of the water.

For walking into the stand I prefer a mini maglite keychain light and a cheap Home Depot headlamp for climbing. If I need to track I have brighter lights in my vehicle. My headlight and maglite both take aaa batteries.

Make sure you get the right batteries. Not all 18650 batteries will work in the newer zebra lights. You need the flat top ones. I tried that one you ordered out but returned it. I have 3 other 18650 light and too much vested in the older 18650 batteries which are about 1/8” longer.
So the batteries came today and they fit in the light and I can screw the cap down. I'd guess the spring is completely depressed. They don't work and I don't think it's length. I believe it to be the fact they aren't high output as zebra suggest. So it's getting returned because most stuff uses the protected button tops these days. The idea behind my lighting revamp was to get everything running of the same batteries, so the zebra is out since it requires something specific. Might I ask what headlamp you went with?

zebralight h600 mkII I think

You will need the high drain 18650 batteries.

So I am guessing the h600 mkII you have doesn't require the high output batteries

Here are my lights and Panasonic battery. Not sure of the exact model number of the headlamp. It is a floody.

I returned the Zebra since it wouldn't run on the batteries I had. Couldn't get ahold of anyone at Zebra since they don't have a phone number or email on their site. All they have is a submission form thing and I don't dig that. I ordered a Fenix headlamp instead. I may get a Zebra at some point if they ever make one that will run off the majority of the protected batteries out there (like the ones I already own). The batteries I have will fit and I can screw the cap closed. I can get the light to come on once (maybe) then when I turn it off and try to turn it back on it won't come on.

I ran a Phoenix HM50R headlamp this year and have no plans of changing. Doesn’t have red or green light but has a really low light as well as medium high and turbo. Definitely worth checking out.

I bought this Fenix

Looks nice. Be a good option for those worried about having a red light feature. Fenix is quality that’s for sure. I’ve had a lot of crappy head lamps over the years and you get what you pay for. Sometimes I forget I’m wearing the fenix it’s so light and packs up into your pocket so easy.
