I have used lone wolf sticks since they first came out. This year I switched over to a Hawk Helium Stick. They are just as light and to me the two steps just make it far easier while setting up and tearing down the sticks. They pack well and are very stable and strong.
I modified mine to where they are 24 inches long, have only one step up per section. I also replace the hardware with a LW versa button and Amsteel rope. The last mod I think I will make is to use the LW tree V bracket as I believe it holds better and is less prone to make noise when putting weight on the stick. The helium tree bracket can make noise on hard barked trees when weight is added or taken offf. Not a big problem 99% of the time but I am picky. I also use a climbing tubular runner to make sling steps for each stick. I use plastic irrigation pipe (1/2 inch) to make a foot step on each one. With two steps they hang nicely and are relatively easy to get on/off while climbing in the dark.
DISCLAIMER: I do not recommend anyone use my system or that anyone alter any climbing device. I recommend you only use these products as the manufacturer suggests.
