Helium Steps

I’ve modded a few sets of helium’s and hung on to the scraps until I had some ideas on how to use them.

I know I’m not the first to make these but I can’t find the original thread where I think @redsquirrel made these way back. Just curious if anyone is still using them. I made a few sets and my buddy has been using them and loves them. I’ve tested them in the backyard and was surprised how well they did.

I hunt with 2 buddies and we call ourselves The Saddle Hunting Trio (SHT) lol so we started calling them SHT steps.

The original ones I made are on the left n then I made a “pro” version that I trimmed the end off and made the step fold up flat inside the cutoff.

I put them on an OCB strap from DanO n they are ready to hunt!

How stable are they with side pressure? Have a few of these laying around collecting dust...

Pretty stable. They flex a bit but not anymore than my squirrel steps.

I just made the “pros” tonight so I haven’t put them on a tree yet. The originals held up to side pressure well and were stable under foot. I’ll put the “pros” on a tree soon and report back with how they perform.

Originals weigh 5.2 oz
“Pros” weigh 3.4 oz

I’ve been wanting to try them myself. I would like to see one on a strap rolled up like you would put it in your pack vs a squirrel step.

I’ll put them on a strap this week and test them and I’ll post up some pictures. The bolt for the step keeps them from packing super tight but they are still pretty compact.

I think this is the thread your looking for.
I've been think about a ring of steps for a platform so I think I'm going to give this a try.

Yup! That’s the thread thanks for digging it up!

No problem. I found it earlier this morning trying to come up with a step design. I seen this thread and a light bulb went off. I had the steps from my cut off heliums. Now I just have a little fabrication to do.

Thanks!

Got my new OCB straps in the mail today thanks DanO and Merry Christmas to you as well!

Didn’t put them on a tree yet but a took some photos of a set of 5 pros next to my 5 squirrel steps.

I doubt I’ll be ditching my squirrel steps to use these but I think these are a great option for anyone who has already cut down or planning on cutting down helium sticks.

Weights. Squirrel steps have tape and vet tape but I didn’t add anything to the helium’s yet.
