Step 1: Buy a Tethrd Mantis without ever sitting, much less touching, a tree saddle.
Step 2: Join SaddleHunter.com

I told myself this is kind of like owning a firearm; if you own a gun, join the NRA. So, if I own (ordered at this point) a saddle, join Saddle Hunter. I think I read one "sticky" post on this entire forum, but watched countless YouTube videos about saddles. G2 Outdoors kept popping up in my suggested videos feed.

Although I had seen this interesting technique for hunting a few years back in a magazine, I really didn't give it much thought. I didn't dislike it. I simply thought it wasn't for me. Fast forward to this August and I read an article in the July 2019 issue of BowHunter magazine entitled "Saddling Up for Success". That was it for me. I didn't care what the learning curve was, but I was no longer going to lug heavy stands into public land or fret about leaving a temporary stand hoping thieves didn't make off with it.

So I've landed on the shore and set fire to the ship. There's no turning back! I have to become a saddle hunter and I'm sure these forums will help me! I look forward to the information shared in this community. Thanks for having me!

Welcome. I’m new as well to the site. However I’ve been using a saddle for many years. Best advise I can give is to practice a lot out the saddle. This can be done in off the ground at first. Then proceed to go higher up the tree.

Welcome to the site! There is a learning curve, but it makes hunting public land fun again. Hang with it and you'll be glad you did.

Burned the ships in the harbor huh? Well good for you! Hope your first winter in the new land is a good one :)

They're toast! My saddle is probably 6-8 weeks out so I'll be hauling the Summit climber into the woods. Perhaps later in the season I will be using it. Got in the game a little late for 2019, but trust me, I won't be learning for the first time 20 foot up a tree. I was born at night, but....

You're going to do great. Wonderful level of enthusiasm. Don't be a stranger to the search function. It'll help you limit S.H.E.M.S.

If you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly bear.
