Seems to be a regular theme but I also don't have a saddle yet and have been watching TONS of Youtube videos and reading these threads.

Never even heard of saddle hunting until a month or so ago. Im going to bite the bullet though soon and Im excited about the new challenge. I have always loved to do all day hunts but never liked having to stay in one spot.

Im looking at the H2 for my first saddle. Seems like quite a few here have good things to say about it as well and at that price point, I think it will work for me.

Here is what I'm concerned about. I am 6' 260 lb 50 year old man. Im not the ruttin buck I used to be. Any other older guys out there that have suggestions I would really appreciate it. I don't mind walking in at distances but just the overall going up and down a tree safety wise is my concern. I usually hunt leased land and haven't ventured into public land much. Any of you that are in Alabama and have any suggestions? I live in Cullman by the way.

Thanks in advance for any tips and tricks you may know about! I am completely open to leaning on you guys for info.

Welcome from Toledo, Ohio!
I'm smaller than you but older. This is a great way to hunt. You can stay attached to the tree all the way up and down. You can make climbing as simple or as complicated as you want. One thing to watch out for is your wallet! The things and ideas that you learn on this site have a magical way of making your money disappear.

Welcome from Michigan! There are guys in their 70s here that I've spoken with, so you're still a young buck.

I live in Cullman and would be happy to show you my limited set up and give you some general advice on safely climbing trees, making transition to platforms, hanging sticks etc. I’m not the most versed on every climbing method and saddle there is but I’ve spent enough time climbing trees, hanging in saddles, and perusing this site to get you started off right. My wife and I don’t have any big plans this weekend so feel free to hit me up. Welcome to the site!

Welcome from Pinson Alabama! I am 55 years old and 5'10 and 205 lbs, down from 225 and still losing weight. Have hunted from treestands for 30+ years. Treesaddles in my opinion are safer because I am always attached to the tree. I too am new to this and really like it. I am in a hunting club and will use the Saddle 90% of the time this year. Got tired of prepping a spot and hanging a stand only to show up and have another member sign my stand out. Totally mobile this year.

That sounds great @gcr0003 I would be interested in seeing how it works in person. Dont want to be a bother to you on 4th of July weekend though if I can help it.

Hey Charles, I agree. Ive always been a Stick and Lockon guy and I can hang that setup pretty quickly but I do like the fact of being attached consistantly going up and down the tree. Lets face it, that first step from the sticks to the Lock on stand was always a step of faith.
